One for the Girls

One for the Girls

It started in the 70s just before ‘Gregory’s girl,
we began to play with a hiss and a hurl.
We pulled on our stripped socks that day,
but some of the boys didn’t want us to play.

It’s taken a decade through lots of tears,
For the England ladies to fill up the tiers.
Watching exciting footwork till the end,
when the winning goal went and curved the bend.

So it’s a ‘Congratulations’ from us all,
for making us stand proud and tall.
A new generation will take up the game,
with this victory, things can never be the same.

Equality in sports really is the norm,
my Grandson says this is the form.
All can enjoy the games they all play,
and everyone gets to have their say.
