The New Retiree

Guess what?

The New Retiree

I’ve joined the realms of retirement, my working life is complete,
no more annoying alarm clocks, just the world at large at my feet.
The time for change is upon me, new ventures and mischief to try,
coffee mornings and loafing, as I watch the minutes float by.

No more rush hour traffic, or sitting in queues in a rage,
just traveling at will when I want to, I think I’m on a new page.
Not governed by regular time checks or wishing each hour to pass
I’ll glide through the day without worry as now I have joined a new class.

I’m the new kid among the retirees, the freshman, a fledgling to boot,
learning the ropes of retirement, and any new tricks that’s on route.
The notion of trying new projects or taking some time to myself,
as I‘ve done umpteen years in the workplace, so I’m hanging my hat on the shelf.

I do hope there’s plenty of mischief and time to be silly and daft,
no need for the workplace fandango, just eccentric behaviour and craft.
I do hope to meet lots of people with a similar mindset to me,
just answer my poem with gusto, we can be fellow retirees!
