Two Thousand and Seventy Two

We all look back at our early years with great fondness. I know I do! But I can’t help wondering what today’s teenagers will be writing when they eventually reach their golden years?

Two Thousand and Seventy Two

Oh to return to my early years,
When I was just a teen.
Life really seemed so simple then,
Back in two thousand and sixteen.

I remember we all had mobile phones,
And most of us had iPads.
I remember the fun we used to have,
Keeping up with the latest fads.

A tattoo somewhere…I had a lion,
Complete with snarling mouth.
Looking straight ahead above my belt,
( but now..it’s looking south!)

Low rider jeans, false fingernails,
Eyelashes stuck on with glue.
Playing the latest XBox games,
Always searching for something new.

We’d go to the beach and lay in the sun,
But now beaches are no more.
Sea levels rose and claimed them back,
Oh..to walk on a sandy shore.

We used to meet in the precinct,
Then we’d wander round and shop.
But shoppings all on line now,
Even clubbings had to stop.

Everything’s online now,
So we don’t venture far from home.
Our friends are all on face time,
So there’s no need for us to roam.

If we want to talk to a doctor,
If we’re poorly..or if we’re lame.
We just log in to their website,
But it’s really not the same.

Everything’s now televised,
So no more traveling to the match.
No fishing boats upon the sea,
There’s no fish left..for us to catch!

Farms have now been built on,
No fields…just big estates.
Most children now are taught at home,
So..no chance to make new mates.

Do you remember theme parks,
Before Health & Safety closed them down.
Do you remember the festivals,
Rocking weekends out of town.

Do you remember The British Isles,
Before the referendum vote.
Did we make the right decision,
To keep all our lives afloat.

I still remember the pride we had,
In Great Britain..our own nation.
Do you remember..what our world was like,
Before the years of mass migration.

Now I’m in my seventies,
And it’s two thousand and seventy two.
Is it better for our young ones now??
I really do not…..have a clue!

Not a lot to tell...just an ordinary man...always loved writing but never had the time until now...hope I've got a few years left to write about the million things I would like to get down on paper be it in poetry form or just plain old story telling. Just in case anyone would like me to come along to their group and read a few of my poems live..I would be happy to do so within the confines of Kent or Sussex...I would just need to cover my time and petrol costs...plus a cup of tea and a biscuit. Just email [email protected] To answer some of your questions= ex-army..ex -jackeroo...ex-builder..ex-quite a few other things..still rocking...married...2 + 3 children...7 grandchildren...retired...love custard creams. I have now published my first collection of poems which are now available on Amazon under the title of..LAST APPLE ON THE TREE. The book consists of twenty seven poems covering a wide range of topics and emotions. My second book has just been published and is called A BREEZE IN THE WILLOWS, also available on Amazon. I hope that everyone will get as much enjoyment reading them, as I did writing them.
