Would you opt to be microchipped?

A software company in the US is the latest to begin microchipping its employees

There is a new movement to microchip humans.

Earlier this year, Swedish tech company Epicenter made headlines after announcing plans to embed a small chip into about 150 workers and now a US company called Three Square Market that makes software for vending machines is the latest to join the club.

The device is about the size of a grain of rice and is embedded in the webbing of the hand between the thumb and forefinger.

CEO Todd Westby says experimenting with chipping employees is all about staying ahead of the technology curve.

“We foresee the use of RFID technology to drive everything from making purchases in our office break room market, opening doors, use of copy machines, logging into our office computers, unlocking phones, sharing business cards, storing medical/health information, and used as payment at other RFID terminals,” he said.

“Eventually, this technology will become standardised allowing you to use this as your passport, public transport, all purchasing opportunities, etc.”

These types of microchips have been used in humans and animals before and mean that people don’t need to keep track of multiple passwords and PINs because it will all be installed on the inserted chip.

Our mobile phones contain much more data about us than the proposed microchip and we are happy to use them so is this any different?

What are your views? How do you feel about being microchipped? Would you opt for this wearable technology of the future? Is your pet microchipped?

I would consent to be microchipped if I could have what I wanted in it such as my medical details, what medication I was on and next of kin.
This could only be used by hospitals and police.
I know there is a band you can wear on your arm with these details in but this microchip would be out of sight. My cat is microchipped so what's the difference?

No need to remove your chip Ron. all done in a flash from a distance, cloned.
What is worrying is that we can become "non people" we can be wiped off the grid. We will not be able to access our money, buy anything, go anywhere. Flick of a switch if we oppose the shadowy controllers of our microchips.

I don't agree with the use of being micro chipped for the above mentioned reasons but I would agree to have a tracker micro chip.

No doubt we will eventually be forced to do it if we want access to public services. Already life can be difficult if you don't have a passport or driving licence. I know people in this situation, and providing proof of identity isn't easy. However, this is all about freedom. We relinquish our freedoms at our peril. We're already one of the most spied upon nations. How many times a day are you observed by CCTV? The next step from microchips to access services will be those same chips monitoring movement. Where does it end?
Endlessly our freedoms of thought and activity are removed a little at a time, hoping no-one will notice. STAND UP AND FIGHT!

Well it was the general population who fell into the trap. Problem, Reaction, Solution. Ordinary people were suckered and bombarded with fear by the media while their paymasters watched us floundering in panic.

The insistent message streamed day and night that crime is everywhere and getting worse by the minute, made people literally beg for cameras and surveillance to protect them from the imagined onslaught.

Nicely done TPTB, they neatly and speedily presented and implemented the solution that the public cried out for. Too late now, the juggernaut of control cannot be stopped.
Unless we rebel as one body.

I would not want to be microchipped ever. I agree with others who say there is way too much information about us all over. When do we get to have some privacy?

I have have thought microchipping for humans would be a great thing. It would do away with the need of hard copy passports, National Insurance cards, driving licences and birth certificates etc. Less opportunity to have our identities stolen.

Perhaps not, Flower. More opportunity for our identities to be stolen. Who ever heard of identity theft before computers?

This is a good idea, I shall implement it immediately for my minions, perhaps with the addition of just a pinhead of ricin which could be released from the device at the first sign of any dissident behaviour in the individual. Hmmm, that could also form the basis of an ‘anti tamper’ protection too, just in case any tried to remove it. Although normally the device could just have the ‘terminate’ code sent from anywhere at any time by embedding the message in the usual daily ‘housekeeping’ up/down loaded data stream. (It pays to keep an ear on everything a minion says), well it only takes seconds to scan their days audio for bad ‘keywords’ like ‘freedom’ and ‘meeting’.

Thinking more about this, another advantage of fitting these, is that even without an overt internal ‘shocking circuit’ it should be possible to heat any such device up to a very uncomfortable level with a suitable RF field. A more sophisticated method would be to make the inbuilt receiving antenna resonate at the pain nerve frequency. The transmitter antenna could either be a highly directional antenna, (I do so hate the word ‘gun’). Just to pick off the odd ‘uppity’ individual in a crowd or wide field pattern to disburse minions en-mass, who may gather to complain about silly things like food rations or working conditions.

Why you could even ‘ring fence’ whole areas of your world, which were not suitable for them to go to, (for their own protection of course). No need even to be close to get those individual ones either, you could pick them off, I mean advise them to modify their behaviour, while holding your ship in a geostationary orbit. All in all I think it is a very good idea to have these fitted, I cannot think of a single reason why it has not been done before on this planet, so humane, it protects the innocent from the guilty, in fact, the only minions who would not jump at the chance to have one fitted, would be those who have criminal intent in mind!

Brilliant!!
You speak of holding the ship out of reach in geostationary orbit, and your minions wantonly implanted!
I suspect you may be living a chip free existence aboard your ship and observing the incremental and eventual destruction of the masses of drones, robots and or zombies Terrans have and will become when they are all uniformly RFID chipped.

Maybe you are too afraid to mingle with the result of your experiments.?
Now why don't you stay on your planet and chip your own BE's.?

Perhaps they are far too advanced and intelligent to fall for your dastardly controlling ruse and have rejected being chipped out of hand, banishing you and your Frankenstein ideas to the outer rim of the Pallaxides.

Are you revealing your actual criminal intent by avoiding the chip?
Maybe your intentions are to stay free, uncontrolled and.......alive?

It is interesting to note that microchipped criminals inside prisons can be monitored to the extent that if a fight breaks out, the microchip can be REWOUND to find the GPS coordinates and intersections to find the inmate who started the fight.

So WHO is able to interfere and TAMPER with your microchip without your knowledge?

That means, you are surveilled in EVERYTHING that you do at all times of the day or night. What TV programmes you watch, when and where you put your kettle on, pinpointing which room you are in, when you go to bed, what you do in bed, when you go to the loo, shower......!

The plus side, controlling criminals and finding lost people and children is far outweighed by the controls it will have on the general population who are not criminal and are just going about their business.
FREEDOM WILL BE A THING OF THE PAST.

Your chip can and I feel sure in the future will be cloned, to make an ELECTRONIC IDENTICAL BODY for criminals. Your REPLICATED PHYSICAL PRESENCE or electronic body can be used to carry out crime, YOU will go to prison, not the clone.

Microchips can MIGRATE in the body, so in a medical emergency, the chip may be overlooked if it is not in its original point of insertion. Microchips give off a signal inside your body. The health implications have not been rigorously tested enough.
This is just a huge opportunity for Big Business to become very, very rich.

Until such time as all factors have been thoroughly investigated, tested and securities put in place, I for one will not volunteer to be a guinea pig.
By the way, it will not be a government agency that oversees your NEUROELECTRIC INTERFACE ENHANCEMENT. Bodies implementing and controlling the very breath that we take, will be PRIVATE COMPANIES. Disaster!!!

DON'T SELL YOUR FREEDOM ( WHAT LITTLE WE HAVE LEFT) TO BECOME CONTROLLED DRONES.
DO YOUR RESEARCH!

Its an interesting conundrum but I think ultimately we will all have chips and also nanorobots inside us looking after our health. Think all this will be with us by 2050 and definitely by the end of this century. In most cases the phone companies already know what we are doing via GPS and where we have been and therefore seen already. that is helpful for the police as you say. I think it would all be ok in the UK...not sure about some other countries where there is less freedom

Well Wilf, by 2050 it may have been fine-tuned enough for a microchipped population, today..... I don't feel confident about it.

I quote:
Cybernetics scientist Dr Mark Gasson of the University of Reading, in Britain, became the first human to be infected with a computer virus, after he injected himself with a microchip in 2009 to control electronic devices in his office.{sic}
End quote.

Pacemakers for example can and are being hacked, imagine if you want to bump someone off, just access their chip. Go shopping at your expense with your cloned chip. The dangers for me far outweigh the benefits at the present time. Lot's of ironing out to do.

Yes the phone companies can monitor our conversations and whereabouts, good or not good whichever way you slice it.

The problem I have with it is that information can be sent back to your chip?
Knowing full well the disastrous mistakes made by our controlling bodies, how and where would our private information end up? Sold without our knowledge as is happening now.

Yes Yodama you have some good points here. How do we know they are safe? Could they be hacked or the software changed to give totally different information? If the chip was in your brain could it be sent to send out signals that may affect your behaviour? All of these points need to be taken into consideration.

I know Wilf, otherwise it would be a great idea to dispense with cards, money, opening doors, doing your homework, hmmm homework, can you get your friend to feed you answers? the benefits would be endless .
Handbags even............well....maybe not handbags!
Could someone in the future send a message to your brain to access your cells to regenerate so that you become younger.?
Now that would be something!
Otherwise, are we just flotsam on the sea of life bumping into other technological driftwood and assimilating its properties?
The future will be very mind blowing.

Yes I agree Yodama...we cannot stop this technological wave...if we do not destroy ourselves we will surely become man/machines. In the future we will link into all knowledge...Quantum computing is coming down the river of time and so is the AI concept. I read yesterday the Chinese government and other Chinese companies are getting ahead in this field. We need to get moving!

There is the downside of someone being able to watch our every move. However I can see benefits. For those elderly persons with Alzheimers who go wandering it would be quite easy for an alert if they leave their premises after a certain time. Criminals and in particular sex offenders and paedophile movements could be monitored to hopefully prevent further crimes being committed. I am not sure we are to far away from chips as we can use fingerprints, retina scans and vocal recognition to replace passwords. With the increase in technology our lives are being monitored anyway. I think it is inevitable that we will be microchipped one day hopefully the reasons for it will be to benefit rather than spy on us

We're nose diving into Orwell's dystopian 1984, and we can't see it! Or is it that we don't want to see it? Too absorbed in our own comforts and conveniences? Well, someone somewhere is using that insouciance to gain control over you.

The getting of total control by the State is almost there. We're under surveillance wherever we go. As said above, our mobile phones contain so much data about us and our habits. Why do you think Security Services world wide prioritise accessing mobile phone data? It tells them so much about us.

Micro chipping people was a side issue on a much earlier thread about chipping dogs. Someone then said (paraphrasing) the next step is people. Well, folks, it's here.

I am surprised no one has mentioned 666. There's a strong correlation here.

I've read Orwell's 1984 many times. Today it's being used as a road map for ever increasing State control of us. So Orwell, all those years ago, got it right! If you're interested get a copy from Amazon. Not only is it a good read but you will see the road map laid out before you. Read and be alarmed. Alarmed enough to say no to micr-chipping the population.

I'll say no!

Becoming a Borg, ( cybernetic life forms) for that is what we will be!
I am ambivalent about the idea. Having foreign objects (RFID chips) implanted into my body as a means of controlling things around me, feeding the status of my health to a collector, not having to carry money, waving your hand to open doors, accessing your computer and gadgets, turning things on and off in your home sounds fantastic. I am all for it.

However....the downside is that huge amounts of data would be collected about you, where you are at any given time, what you buy, bank details etc. Criminals are very adept at accessing your bank card chip from a distance and since chips are intercommunicable, your RFID could be tampered with.
It would be wide open to abuse from all quarters.

My major worry is the control factor, who will control everything? The ineptitude of the people who have in the past either lost, tampered with or sold our data is frightening.

What information could surreptitiously be sent to the chip in your body?
At the moment there are not enough safeguards in place to prevent hacking and malfunction.
Would the signal interfere with your body and would your body accept a foreign implant?
What would be done with the information gathered about you? Maybe sold for targeted sales or to insurance companies, the list goes on.

Your privacy would be a distant dream.
Being pulled kicking and screaming into the future is inevitable, whether we like it or not, the future will have its way.

I think this in inevitable as humans will progress towards being human machines. These are the first steps...we have artificial hearts, limbs, lungs. People like Elon Musk want to live for hundreds of years. Nothing wrong with that but it would have to be in a machine like body that does not wear out I would think. Someone back 100 years would not believe the technological progress we are making now..maybe even 50 years ago its becoming like "Blade Runner" or the Terminator...it will only move much faster as we progress........

Surely this has only come about because there are no longer any checks and balances. Technology is driving forward unchecked. But technology is about money, profit, and not the good of the human race. As with slavery it benefits the few and not the many.

Although I'm by nature a cautious person I do see clearly Orwell's 1984 coming into play. I don't like it. The value of human kind is it's uniqueness, it's intellectual ability to meet a difficult situation and over come it. But we're now looking at a time, perhaps in our lives, when humans will be redundant. No need for us, machines will solve every problem.

Is that a comforting thought? We who have grand children imagining them chipped, dosed with Soma (Greek for sleep) and trudging around without purpose or vitality. Expendable, of no worth. The Nazi concentration camps treated my people in that way. Can't work? Die! Sick? Die.

Technology is just for profit and that without responsibility for the outcomes of their inventions. It is we who will pay a heavy price, perhaps with our lives, for this move away from a known reality.

Retirement? No, a bullet or a jab.

I think what is coming next which is AI will be the most amazing and possibly worrying phase and the last 20 years will seem like medieval days in comparison. I do agree we should be very careful with these implated chips..in the UK maybe...in a lot of other countries not a good idea!

Why on earth would people need that. i have spent my life working on the land and especially there could see no use for it at all. Besides I give away enough information all the time when on phone calls asking for my date of birth, mothers maiden name etc
