Would you like it to snow at Christmas?

To add to the craziness of 2020 the Met Office believe there may be more chance of snow at Christmas than usual this year.

The chance of widespread snow on 25th December is usually pretty slim in the UK and with climate change resulting in higher temperatures the odds are even lower.

But for those who are wishing for a white Christmas it’s not time to give up hope as they do still occasionally happen, and we may well see one in 2020.

Our last official white Christmas was in 2010, when snow was widespread across Northern Ireland, Scotland, parts of Wales, the Midlands, the north east and far south west England but could we see one again this year?

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes certainly thinks so. “It’s looking likely we’ll be waking up to the white stuff on Christmas Day as temperatures continue to tumble to snowfall territory.”

Ladbrokes say the latest bets show the odds of snow falling on 25th December in the UK are 5/4.

With the Met Office predicting a colder than average winter in the UK and Ireland, some of us may well get our wish!

It would be nice to wake up Christmas morning with snow that would be gone shortly after, but if you’re travelling, I understand that you would prefer it not to snow during the holiday season. Unfortunately, living in the City, it doesn’t look pretty for long. So sad!

I am spending Christmas with one of our sons, daughter in law and grandson at their home as I am in a bubble with them. So, no, I don't want it to snow but if was alone then yes, I would love it to snow. It all depends on the lock down rules nearer Christmas.

We had snow here yesterday(Fri 4th) and my 3year old grandchildren delighted in it .So whilst to many of us it seems to be an inconvience ,risky and many would like it to be a one day wonder ,we should remember we were children once and experienced the fun of snow.
Needless to say though it wasn't me who took them out to play in the snow.

It's bad enough not being able to see the family since March. snow would ruin it for everyone who has to travel.

It would be lovely, and an extra present to our dog who absolutely loves leaping about in it.

I've voted 'no', thinking of potential disruption to those travelling to see family but personally I don't care whether it does or not as I'll probably be staying home, alone; through personal choice! I want to keep myself safe until I can get the vaccine.

We need cold weather to kill of germs but I don't like snow. It look lovely on Christmas cards and when you look out the window but soon turns to ice or slush making it difficult to walk. My husband works outside on 12 hour shifts, day and nights. His job is made harder with snow.

A white Christmas is always nice to see, but that soon wears off if you have to commute to work in the stuff. Accidents increase when it has snowed, there are problems with deliveries etc etc, and when it thaws there is water everywhere. So no thank you, my head not my heart rules on this one, as the cons far outweigh the pro's when it comes to snow I'm afraid.

There's a certain stillness and peace when it's snowed and to have a white Christmas would be lovely.

Yes, I’d love it to snow. I too am awash with mud and the idea of a clean white covering over the lanes and fields is charming.
I’ve also recently swapped my super sensible Audi for a huge pickup with raised suspension and tyres that come up to my waist. Just didn’t want a grannybus I suppose. Now I want to try it out!

As lately we have had hardly 2 days in a row without rain, and mud is all around, some hard ground and clean snow would be a welcome change. Sometimes we can get snowed in, but as long as the Power lines stay up we will be OK.

Oh yes please! After all the gloom and doom this year, the dire predictions for next year what could be better?

I'd just love to see my eighteen month old Collie bitch see snow for the first time and making sense of it; having a fine time with the old boy who'll remember it well. A walk hand in hand with my dear lady and a hot dinner afterwards.

A fine and beautiful ending to a miserable year.

But I live in Florida! It has snowed here a couple of times, but it's still like summer here so I don't think so.

This is the one year when I would welcome a white Christmas. I love walking on crisp white snow and let's face it - I won't be driving and going out and about this year so there isn't much else to do!
