With the airing of the last ever episode of Happy Valley, some of us are already looking around for our next crime drama fix.
Luckily there is a plethora of great UK crime dramas to binge-watch. Here are just a few of our favourites:
Broadchurch
Starring David Tennant, Olivia Coleman, and Jodie Whittaker and set in a small town on the coast of England.
With a young boy’s body found at the bottom of a cliff detectives Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller try to solve the case. A drama full of twists and turns and will keep you baffled until the last scene.
The Fall
Gillian Anderson as MET Police Superintendent Stella Gibson and Jamie Dornan as a serial killer this drama will have you on the edge of your seats.
Set in Belfast, Gibson is sent to investigate an unsolved murder and quickly finds herself racing to stop a serial killer before another body is found.
Luther
A psychological crime thriller starring Idris Elba as DCI John Luther with five seasons and a film due for release this month now is the perfect time for a binge-watch!
Bodyguard
Richard Madden (Police Sargeant David Budd) stars as a Specialist Protection Officer for the Home Secretary (Keeley Hawes).
The six-part series draws attention to controversial issues such as government monitoring of private information and its regulation, the politics of intervention and terrorism, and PTSD.
It is compelling viewing and has the promise of a Bodyguard series 2 sometime soon.
Sherwood
Inspired by real-life murders in a Nottinghamshire mining community and starring David Morrissey, Robert Glenister, and Lesley Manville.
This gripping six-episode crime series follows the police investigation into deaths that rock an old mining town and reopen old wounds.
Sherwood is being scheduled for a second series.
Inside Man
Starring David Tennant and Stanley Tucci, Inside Man revolves around the complex puzzle of a prisoner on death row in the US, a vicar in an English village, his son’s maths teacher and a journalist.
With only 4 episodes it’s an easy binge-watch which will keep you on your toes.
Line of Duty
With Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, Keeley Hawes, and Kelly Macdonald the iconic Line of Duty has a superb cast and a great storyline.
This crime drama has won plenty of awards and is a definite must-see but you’ll need plenty of time on your hands as it runs to six seasons.
