PRIME: Resources for older Entrepreneurs

A golden, work-free retirement may be a popular dream, but there are many people who find the desire to do well in business doesn’t fade as they grow older. Rather than saying goodbye to the workplace, there is a whole host of over 50s who’re keen to get stuck into a new set of challenges. If you’re one of these people, PRIME could be the ideal resource for you.

PRIME (Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise) is an initiative dedicated to helping people over 50 set up their own business. It’s also a very valuable resource for older workers who have been made redundant or who are struggling to find employment.

The foundations of PRIME

PRIME was founded by HRH The Prince of Wales in response to the high volume of letters he received from people over the age of 50 who were desperate to get back to work, but who were having difficulty in finding employment due to their age.

It’s an unfortunate fact that in the UK, there are more than 3.5m people over 50 who are out of work. PRIME aims to offer an alternative path for these people. Since 1999, the organisation has helped more than 25,000 people explore self-employment options.

How PRIME can help

There are a lot of different ways that PRIME can help, including free training courses, mentoring support and networking events. Once you have joined The Prince’s Initiative, you’ll be eligible to take part in all of these useful events. Have a look at some of the practical courses and networking sessions that can boost your skills and grow your confidence.

There are also a large number of business resources available online, ideal if you’re hoping to find out more about the journey involved in becoming self-employed. Offering everything from tips for writing a business plan and trademarking to advice about social media and advertising ideas, PRIME has all of the essential bases covered.

Changing the future with PRIME

PRIME not only hopes to help you change your future for the better by making it possible to enter self-employment, it is also working towards a brighter tomorrow for 50-plus businesses and social enterprise overall. The initiative aims to shape the environment for over 50s enterprise by helping to inform and develop public policy going forward.

If you’ve always wished you’d had the chance to go it alone but have been nervous about starting your own business or you’ve found yourself unemployed and ready for a new challenge, see how PRIME could help.
