Are you suffering from a never ending cold?

We are constantly being bombarded with new viruses and infections and usually manage to fight most of them off perfectly well, but sometimes our bodies let us down and our immune systems just can’t cope.

It is when we are mentally and physically tired that we are more prone to catching infections which result in back to back heavy colds or flu-like illnesses. The more tired we are the more colds we catch, the more tired we become and the less likely our immune systems work as they should.

So what can we do to help ourselves?

How to boost our immunity

The three best ways to boost immunity are:

  • Eat correctly – keep a sensible weight for your height by eating a healthy balanced diet.
  • Take regular exercise. Regular exercise will boost immunity but be careful as too much heavy endurance exercise can have the reverse effect and result in low immunity.
  • Avoid becoming overly stressed as too much stress can have a negative impact on the body

What is a healthy balanced diet?

A diet low in sugary foods and saturated fats is considered to be healthy.  Try to eat foods containing:

  • Vitamin C,
  • Antioxidants
  • Selenium
  • Zinc
  • Vitamin E

These can be found in foods such as fruits, nuts, pulses and green vegetables.

It may also be worth taking a multivitamin supplement but it is advisable to check with your GP first as they can test for any lack of nutritional deficiencies.

Once you are feeling better it is important to try and prevent recurring infection by following the above advice.  Your immune system will thank you for it!
