Advances in Hearing Aid Technology

For some people, the words hearing aids still conjure up the image of a large whistling and ugly device on the outside of the ear.

But as with so many areas of our lives, technology has transformed the look and capabilities of modern hearing aids. Many of today’s devices will automatically change their settings in different environments, stream the audio from the TV or even answer your phone.

‘Hearing aid technology has advanced hugely over the last few years and we are seeing more improvements which makes them not only help us hear better but are more attractive and easier to use,’ says Specsavers’ chief Audiologist Gordon Harrison.  In the same way that mobile phones now allow us to do far more than make a call, hearing aid technology is starting to move beyond just improving someone’s hearing. In the future, they will be multi-functional devices that will help us in different areas in our lives.

Modern digital hearing aids are self-learning meaning that they get to know your preferred settings for the places you go and adjust automatically. They can also filter out background noise to make it easier to have a one-to-one conversation and many can be tuned directly into your TV or stereo.

Rechargeable hearing aids

Hearing aid batteries can be fiddly to change which can be frustrating for wearers, so Specsavers now offers rechargeable hearing aids. You simply need to place them in the charger at the end of the day and they turn on and are ready to use when you need them again.

After a full charge, the Signia Cellion Primax hearing aids deliver 24 hours of continuous outstanding hearing. During the charging cycle, the charger even dehumidifies Signia Cellion Primax for better care and longer service life of the devices.

Invisible hearing aids

Specsavers’ new invisible hearing aids are our most discreet style yet, fitting completely in the ear canal.

This means that from most angles it doesn’t look like there is anything in the ear. The aids do not block up the ear canal, which gives users a better, more natural sound. This is great for new hearing aid wearers with milder hearing loss. The dome that slides into the ear canal is made from silicone, for a lasting and comfortable fit.

The hearing aids are not custom made, so if they are in stock, you can take them away the same day as your hearing test.

Prices start from £495
