18th October is World Menopause Day
Sunday 18th October is World Menopause Day, a worldwide awareness campaign for women who face health issues approaching, during and beyond the menopause.
Menopause is a natural part of ageing, occurring for most women between the ages of 45 and 55, though can happen as early as your 30s or late as your 60s. This is a period where oestrogen levels decline and a woman no longer experiences periods or is able to get pregnant naturally.
Despite the fact it’s a universal experience for women, many enter menopause unexpectedly and don’t have access to the right information to navigate the transition.
Symptoms like hot flushes are common, but as are: night sweats, vaginal dryness, loss of libido, difficulty sleeping, low mood and problems with memory and concentration.
Thanks to awareness campaigns like World Menopause Day, women are becoming more aware of symptoms and treatment options available to them.
