Why PVC decking is set to take the country by storm

In much the same way that some people thought their single-glazed, wood-framed windows were the height of technology, wooden decking is still flying off the shelves even in 2019.

Despite the inherent problems with wooden decking – such as the fact it’s slippery when wet, rots and splinters – the low price-point is attractive to many. And for those of us who have the knees to get down there and scrub, sand and varnish it a couple of times a year, it’s adequate. It’ll do.

But then again, some of us aren’t quite as nimble as we once were. Perhaps we don’t have the time – or simply don’t want to waste time – on maintenance. Maybe we like to go barefoot without worry of a splinter, or a cut from a protruding rusty nail. Or if you’re like me, the joy of remaining vertical instead of suddenly finding yourself horizontal because of a slippery wooden board is what’s most important.

But who wants adequate? Why settle for anything less than great? We’ve found a perfect solution. Fitrite creates a PVC deck, and they promise to “take the hassle out of decking” with their full start to finish service. The deck itself is unique – it looks and feels like real wood, even on quite close inspection, yet is made of recycled PVC meaning not only is it eco-friendly (stopping plastic going into the oceans) but it also means that fewer trees are felled to give you your seating area. Add in the fact that you’re not going to be pouring toxic chemicals all over it like you would to treat a wooden deck and you’ll enjoy your garden with a clear conscience.

But it’s not all about what the deck can do for the world, it’s about what the deck does for you. For a start it’s non-slip. It achieves this without having an ugly grey gravel strip running down it’s length. The wood-grain effect is what acts as the non-slip texture, and because it covers the whole face of the board it’s non-slip in all directions, not just across the board. As the deck is made of PVC there’s no maintenance required apart from cleaning the muck off – which can be done with a mop and some warm soapy water, easy!

We mentioned earlier the full start to finish service and that’s where it all gets very convenient. Book an appointment with Fitrite and they’ll come round and measure up, survey and quote, go through Finance options with you and return a few days later to build the deck (and remove your old one free of charge if you’re replacing). Of course there’s no obligation to buy, but with 0% interest APR finance or the option to defer all payment for a full year, it seems like a no-brainer.
