My Antique World!

My Antique World!

To be honest my world of Antiques is so sweet,

The fever for hunting is never complete.

I rise very early for many a Fair,

My anticipation, driving me there.

I spend the day hunting through stall after stall,

I always find bargains there, some big some small.

I drive down the prices as low as I can,

I show them no mercy be it woman or man.

I drive home delighted with what I have found,

Knowing I’ll profit by many a pound.

But into some box many items will go,

To be quite forgotten…. it’s silly I know!!!

Then many years later, whilst searching for socks,

I discover an overly sized cardboard box.

I open it up and find goodies inside,

I sit looking stupid with mouth open wide.

I forgot that I had this, forgot I had that,

And I unpack it all on the fireside mat.

I gaze in such wonder at beautiful things,

I’m so full of joy that my heart sort of sings.

Then I pack them away not shedding a tear,

Only to find them in some other year.

I went out today to the Swinderby Fair,

But not many bargains were tarrying there.

Some great silver fruit knives, I did though unfurl,

With nicely chased handles in mother of pearl.

A carved wooden box with a dragon thereon,

Went back for some Blue John but found it was gone.

The rest of the bits that I found were not great,

So for the next Fair now, I just cannot wait.

The hunt is such fun I can never resist,

So local Antique Fairs can never be missed.

To go hunting, I get up quite early some days,

And drive to a Fair with my brain in a haze.

And when I get there the adrenalin rises,

Whilst I’m hoping to find quite a lot of surprises.

To be frank it’s a challenge to find something good,

Be it silver or ivory, china or wood.

I look for the Wedgwood, the Worcester, the staffs,

As I talk with stallholders, and have a few laughs.

The gold and the silver, the pewter the glass,

Sometimes they elude me (and who wants the brass?)

It’s Friday and thoughts of the weekend abound,

A time to go hunting and driving around.

To the car boot, the Centre and maybe a Fair,

If you are around then, I might see you there.

I‘m sure like all weekends this one will soon go,

Like all my weekend days which never go slow.

However, on Monday, if the weekend goes faster

There’s a Fair at the Racecourse in good old Doncaster!

Just to be there is worth all the effort and stress,

Without it my life would be in such a mess!

It’s the hunting that gets me, just has to be done,

For me it’s not work…. it’s just having great fun!
