Choose the best Prime Minister of your lifetime

The job of Prime Minister is one of the most challenging and demanding jobs in the world.

Ruling a country fairly and making policy decisions that will impact tens of millions of lives comes with great power and great responsibility.

Sometimes our opinions shift over time when politicians are no longer in office – we look back on decisions and see them as positive where we were once critical, or as damaging when they once seemed promising.

Today in our Silversurfers poll we’re asking you to vote for who you believe has been the best Prime Minister of your lifetime. Then share why you made your choice in the comments below!

For many many reasons but mostly because he showed wisdom and good sense in keeping us out of the Vietnam war.

Oh, it's got to be Winston Churchill. If ever there was a God appointed man for his times it was Churchill.

The pity was he got too fond of power and should have stayed in retirement from 1945 onwards instead of re-taking the premiership in 1951 when he was too old and too far removed from a Post War Britain.

But he remains the man, the best and no one, whatever their aspiration, has come even close.

I voted for Harold Wilson not because I’m a labour supporter but because he didn’t join the US in their war in Vietnam. My husband was just the right age to be called up he is seventy now.
I keep seeing men of a similar age on Question Time who are very gung ho over Brexit who probably would not be alive but for this decision.

Camerone seemed a nice bloke but he was a toff and should have taken us into Brexit after letting us have the vote. Brown was worse than useless he had the charisma of a kipper.Blair had charisma but was as slippery as a fish. i would not trust a word that bloke says its just about me me me. How can a labour/socialist amass loads of houses and about £30 million-what a hypocrite of the first order.

Thatcher followed by Cameron. the thing about Thatcher is love her or hate her she did change British society probably for the better with an oompf for industry after an initail fiasco and she said what she believed in. She was not compassionate enough though and treater communities like the miners terribly which she will never be forgiven for. Some of the other PMs were hopeless leaders-Major, Brown and May all come to mind.
