Which is your favourite shop bought hot cross bun?

You know Easter is coming when you sample your first hot cross bun of the season! Are you a connoisseur of this traditional treat?

The origins of hot cross buns may go back as far as the 12th century. According to the story, an Anglican monk baked the buns and marked them with a cross in honour of Good Friday. Over time they gained popularity, and eventually became a symbol of Easter weekend.

Some of us make our own hot cross buns, and many of us pop a pack in our basket at our favourite supermarket. Shop bought hot cross buns can vary so much and when you have discovered the one that hits the spot there is no turning back! Are they just for Easter or do you eat them all year round?

Found most shop bought hot cross buns too spicy. Prefer our local baker's or my own...

I make my own as I then know that they do NOT contain and chemicals, such as margarine, just whole unsalted butter and cinnamon of course. My oven will be on at 7am on Friday with the first batch out by 7:45

Hard to really say when they are available all year round and you just buy randomly. Though some are more preferable than others and flavours and ingredients to the basic recipe are now widely available to choose from.
I do like a fruity, spicy and light in texture bun though.

Booths supermarket should be in your list. Their hot cross buns are the best.

Really worth taking another look at Iceland Foods - not just frozen!
