How often should you actually wash your bed sheets?I would change my bed every day of the week if I could. It is pure decadent luxury to do that. I love pure cotton. I always open the windows and roll the duvet back in the mornings. I never ever make a warm bed. Pillows are changed regularly. Windows washed often. Mattresses are turned almost weekly. Everything is washed often and hoover behind beds and underneath to get rid of dust. My pet hate. You cannot sleep well in a dirty bedroom. Just change the energy and clean it.ViewDate:

“Number, please?”I have used one of these, so seeing it there was delightful. It was so tactile to use too, believe it or not. There were patterns to the wires and they were all criss crossed when in use. Even that dial had a tactile feel to it. It was probably slow and laborious but fabulous to use. The board would light up too. You were really something if you were G.P.O. trained.......Sometimes the metal tops would clip you when they sprung back. Any other memories of these?ViewDate:

Eco friendly gift wrap optionsI've just bought an old atlas in a charity shop for £1. This is going to be my Christmas wrapping paper for this year. I also make small boxes out of it as it is stiff enough to take a small gift. I love Japanese newspapers....or Russian....or anything a bit different to wrap presents in.ViewDate:

Which is better for the environment - a real fir or a plastic spruce?(Oops. I hadn't finished- I'm new to this) I therefore get the best of both worlds. A fallen branch.......so it's fresh and not plastic. It can be recycled in my compost bin, chopped up and it smells lovely too as I add oils (clove/pine/orange) to it for the duration it's on my ceiling. I find this more fun and less of a physical effort than any other tree. It just requires creativity. Any other ideas? to satisfy the needs of the soul.......ViewDate:

Which is better for the environment - a real fir or a plastic spruce?I get myself off to the local forest and find a lovely fallen branch. I bring it home, hook it up over the dining room table and hang my jewjews and baubles from it, dangle ivy and anything else that takes my fancy. Last year I painted it white and hung everything silver from it.ViewDate:

Advice needed please!Hello Kaz, None of us choose loneliness, yet it can come about through no fault of our own. I live in a rural area and everyone asked when we moved here "Why?". Well, it is rather beautiful and unique, but.....the downside is, I miss people too. I didn't realise, but I write a lot and I get ideas and humour from watching people, not sheep! I now do house sitting/animal sitting for free. I love it. It takes me to places I didn't even think about. I'm quite used to living on my own and like my own company but I crave seeing people. This also gives me an opportunity of exploring places where perhaps I might like to live in the future when eventually we will move from our isolated spot. If you are thinking about moving, think about what you would like from your new house/place. Try not to go down the quick cash house sale route if you can avoid it. Renting your house out could be a solution.......you are then free to go anywhere where there is work. Over 50 schemes can be a good idea. Think seriously about what you like and don't like to do. It might be that you have the confidence to travel......you may not. You might like to do a job "living in". Sometimes just being somewhere different can open up all sorts of other doors and be such a refreshing change. It helps if you can start to open doors for yourself. Any small steps....like coming on this forum, where people are very warm and friendly, can help. Aha.....you can tell I am new to this can't you. I have just realised that you wrote that in March, 2016(it's now November 2019). Well, now I am wondering just how you progressed in the meantime. lol. Silly me. I do hope that things worked out for you and you eventually found some solution. I would love to hear if you have a minute.........ViewDate:

Washing in Bygone daysI loved your poem about washing. I think you must be.......at least over the age of twenty 25 if you remember this. I am a fan of washing, dolly blues (which I buy in Holland these days).......and am fortunate to live in the Welsh hills where the air is pure and the washing is whiter than white. I love white towels, white linen.....and ironing. Yes, I am one of those women that admits to loving ironing. It is therapeutic. I couldn't sleep in a bed where the sheets hadn't been ironed. My folding techniques are second to none. My laundry cupboard - an absolute delight.ViewDate:

What book are you currently reading?I've enjoyed The Salt Path by Raynor Wynn. As well as enjoying this I felt that by buying it I was contributing to her in some very small way. However, it did awaken something within me especially as I was looking after my Mother 24/7 at the time of reading and I vowed that when she died (she was 99 at the time) I was going to leave home and run away (except I did it already at 17)! Ha. She has since died, sadly and I am now thinking about that "grand walk". Raynor Wynn's fault, but it was such fascinating reading. I didn't realise that it could be possible except her circumstances dealt her such a blow in life that there were very little options in life other than to "go for a walk".ViewDate:
