A Veterans story….

A Veterans Story…

Is there anyone out there?
Does anyone even care?
Does anyone understand?
Unless they were there.

The memories haunt you day and night,
You can never forget that terrible sight.
Of your friends and comrades, lying there,
Eyes wide open, forever to stare.

It should have been me, not them you think,
As you lie on a couch and talk to a shrink.
What was it for, that tragic loss of life?
Young men gone, before that had any life.

No happy future will ever be theirs,
No wonder you dread the walk up the stairs.
Knowing your dreams will be nightmares again,
Again and again and again and again.

You want these thoughts to go away,
It will get easier I hear you say,
You were not there, you cannot understand,
The loss of my friends in that far away land.
