Abandoned Christmas Fairy (furloughed till year-end)

I’m an abandoned Christmas fairy
Ain’t life just full of shocks
After sitting proudly top o’ tree
I’ve been chucked in a box

I know this year’s been tough for you
But I can still remember
When I was there about a month
I stood there from November

I hear you saying it’s so sad
You can’t be amongst your friends
When isolated on a branch
The discomfort never ends

Tho’ pine needles are so sharp
I don’t let my face look glum
And it’s difficult to give a smile
With a twig stuck up your bum

This year has been unkind to you
I truly understand
But ten months in a cardboard box
Is not what I had planned

If I was in the warmth and light
I’d really be ecstatic
I’m lay with spiky baubles
In a dark and freezing attic

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..
