Armistice

Bugles call and poppies fall
Old names chiselled on granite wall
Young men they, who sold their life
Mourned by parents and some by a wife.

And children cried, for a missing dad
All the times, they never had
But these men died, to end all wars
Surely a no more noble cause.

Bugles call and poppies fall
Their sacrifice really, meant bugger all
‘cos we didn’t learn, despite the cost
Fathers and sons are still being lost.

Yes, we are proud of what they did
But the truth as ever is being hid
Young men are still falling, in some foreign field
Whilst men in their suits, their power still wield.

And bugles will sound and poppies will fall
And a few new names, will be writ on the wall
Oh how I pray, but I think it in vain
“The Last Post, will sound, Again and AGAIN!

Ordinary sort of a guy.Done a few different things in my life. Served in the Worcestershire Sherwood Foresters.Worked for Stanton and Staveley (Iron) for 25 years until I had a massive heart attack in 2000.First of Five LOL.
