Becoming Dad

I’ve always enjoyed the Japanese poetry forms of Haiku and Tanka (amongst others) where your syllables are restricted, with everyone fighting for inclusion!

During lockdown one I wrote this Tanka, about my dawning realisation of just how much like my father I was becoming!

Becoming Dad

As time meanders,
unhurried realisation
dawns that you’re not that
unlike the genes, which designed
your exclusive existence.
