Child Care

This is the voice of the most important person in the current Child Care debate: The baby.

Child Care

I am not a business
I am not a commodity
Don’t weigh up all the pros and cons
AFTER giving birth to me.

Do your sums and don’t have me
If you have any qualms.
Because I don’t want to be cradled
In a stranger’s arms.

Don’t put me into a Nursery,
I want you home. You see
I only have one mummy
And I want you here with me.

Why do you go out to work?
To pay bills such as Child Care?
Stay at home, look after me.
You’ll save thousands of pounds, right there.

How could you think of foisting me off
At the earliest possible time?
To pursue your career? Then why am I here?
A poor-run second in line.

You are my foundation,
No other comes close to meet it.
Didn’t Granny ever explain
You can’t have your cake and eat it?

I am not a business nor commodity.
I’m not coffee, oil or corn.
Don’t register me for Child Care
Before I’ve even been born.
