Desolation

Desolation

Standpipe dripping poisoned water
mother searching for her daughter
nowhere left to sleep at night
husband lays dying at her feet
shot while trying to stop the fight,
sons who’ve gone to fight the foe are lost to war,
never to come through your door
never will you hear their voices,
young men never given any choices.
When I look around I see
the desolation surrounding me,
all hope is gone and what remains is PTSD.
