Ditty for my Daughter

Ditty for my Daughter

Far across the big blue sea
Lives my daughter, far from me
Though it makes me often wonder
How she lives so far down under

Underneath the bold UK
Underneath where I do stay
But if she lives across the sea
How is it, she’s down under me

If I do fly across the sky
A day or more, it’s worth a try
To see my lovely daughter fair
Who lives and works hard over there

However, if she lives down under
Again, it makes me often wonder
What sort of plane will get me there
Flying high up in the air

My girly lives in a land called Oz
But there’s no wizard just because
Her Oz is different than the movie
Where she lives is much more groovy

Yet if I dug myself a hole
Just like a long-tailed hairy mole
Would I reach that big huge city
In time to read her this my ditty

Coz time is short, for this to do
Before my girl is thirty two
So, still I’m puzzled how to travel
It’s a mystery I can’t unravel

I think I’ll have to book a flight
And let them know I’ll go at night
Then if that flight goes underground
Without the light or even sound

I wouldn’t know a thing at all
Coz fast asleep, I soon would fall
Sure sleeping through would be just grand
I’d wake up just as we did land

So if in Sydney you do see
A mole shaped plane delivering me
You’ll know I made it to the party
You’ll hear my laugh so loud and hearty

I’ll sing that song to my gorgeous girl
With love and pride, it’ll all unfurl
So though I can’t be there today
There is something I’d like to say

Mole Air couldn’t get me a seat
Eventually I had to admit defeat
But if I could burrow myself down under
I’d fill her day up with lots of wonder

Coz though she lives across the sea
My Tina Cullen is still with me
She’s in my heart, which she fills with love
My girl is a special gift from above

So Tina, hear that birthday hum…
And feel the love sent from your Mum..

I'm an Irish Nana, loving the UK after living in Spain for 14 years. 'Why on earth did you leave there', I hear you ask. The sunshine my two grandchildren bring to my life, far surpasses the rays from the sky. Wherever they are, their Nana will be too!
