Do you know what day it is?

Do you know what day it is?

It is many weeks into lockdown,
I think I’m doing fine
Though probably overdosing on crackers,
cheese and wine

I’ve tidied out the cupboards,
sorted out the draws
Spent time shuffling photographs,
plus doing put off chores

The only problem I can see, ( I hope it isn’t only me)
Is that I can’t remember day or date
So many times I’m much too late
To participate in computer boom
And miss my chance to join in zoom

One time I was so deluded
I got to think I’d been excluded
But if at a calendar I’d peek
Would have found I’d chose the wrong week

You see  I had nowhere to go
Not used it since March and so
I did something I know was rash
I threw the darn thing in the trash

I have always written poetry but when my husband died suddenly I used it as a kind of therapy. I don’t usually share these unless I feel they will help someone in distress. The ones I share are mostly humorous intended to bring a smile in what I feel can be a very lonely world... I have written four booklets and now a Corona chronicles which is just twelve poems writ while I am in jail...oh sorry I meant lockdown. Am on my way for a second booklet.. Trying to make folk smile and take a minutes release from these difficult times helps me forget my sight problems..

I started off thinking up a joke, then 120 of them in an hour, then I decided to have a crack at writing comedy, Irish comedy, that was a great feeling watching people laugh at what I wrote. was even offered the chance to take the first comedy play to the states but turned the offer down, I don't write for money, I just love like I said to see people laugh,, keep up the writing, great way to relax,

I agree, I write to amuse myself and hopefully other folk too. I read them for Todmorden Talking Newspaper for the Blind where they seem to be well received.,and have six booklets in print. I try to help raise money for good causes. The only payment I require is a smile. My motto is ....if I can’t make someone smile it is a wasted day. Good luck with your ventures
