Locked Down

Locked down

So on we go, we stay at home
Can’t meet up, not allowed to roam
Messaging friends every day
Letting them know we have nothing to say

I never knew I could spend so much time
Being grateful for Amazon Prime
Staring out of windows at the same old view
Or looking at holidays for 2022

Searching for recipes, the focus on food
The sweet and the savoury lifting our mood
‘The little book of scones’ is an absolute must
Then Delia of course, in whom we can trust

No need for new clothes; hair is too long
We try a new hobby but it tends to go wrong
Wardrobes are tidy, cupboards are clean
We watch too much telly, we stare at a screen

No good use of lockdown, no ‘make-over me’
Just a sense of surviving, perhaps you agree.
A year down the line and not much to show
But we got through it together, that much we know.

Spring is round the corner, summer will follow
We will get a new feeling of a brighter tomorrow
New things to do, opportunities to grab
Hoping that life will be transformed by a jab.

One day we will look back to see what went wrong
Reflection will show how we worked hard to stay strong
Those who are fortunate within our human race
May be those who have gained a sense of home and of place.
