Media Frenzy

A little controversial, I know, but just my thoughts expressed in a poem. I wonder what others think.

Media Frenzy

A seed was planted in our heads
The moment we rose from our beds
News reports of closed BP stations
Provoking hysteria upon our nation

A shortage of drivers, it was made clear
Not a fuel shortage, no need to fear
But that evoked one’s inner beast
That one may miss out on the feast

As if by magic, long queues did form
With panicking motorists all set to swarm
Many petrol stations now bled dry
Those who missed out were left to cry

Causing chaos and fear in its wake
Our media channels, some blame should take
Fully aware of their headline’s power
Causing unrest, they then report on each hour

To the public, I beg, please use your head
Think logically and calmly as you rise from your bed
There was never a shortage of fuel you see
Just a knee jerk reaction to a media frenzy

If only we all could switch off the news
Our lives would be calmer, with no panic queues
We would think for ourselves instead of being fed
By a media frenzy that plays with our head.
