Memories For a Lifetime

Lots of people are struggling at the moment with the cost of living crisis, with no end in sight.  Some appear to have it all, whilst others feel they will fall.  We may not all be rich in wealth but, we are lucky if we have family and loved ones to call on and make memories with. The grass isn’t always greener.

Memories for a Lifetime

I’m feeling so sad
Said the child to her mum
What’s up my dear
Why feel so glum?

My friend at school
Is richer than me
With a big fancy house
And a widescreen TV

Her parents have posh jobs
They work in the city
They buy her the best clothes
She looks oh so pretty

Even her school clothes
Are nicer than mine
She gets all that she asks for
Without fail, every time

Don’t cry my child
Let me open your eyes
For the words that I utter
May cause you surprise

I know of your friend
It’s not all as it seems
She too envies you
Who leads the life that she dreams

She longs for her parents
To spare her their time
To play and to cuddle
And read the odd nursery rhyme

At the end of each school day
It’s her mum that she misses
To help with her homework
And smother her in kisses

She longs for her parents
To stop for a while
To hear all her worries
And make her heart smile

But they are too busy
Earning big bucks, you see
To spend time with their child
Whose as sad as can be

She may live in a big house
With a posh fancy car
And have two loving parents
Who want her to go far

She may have the best things
That money can buy
And be showered with gifts
As the years pass on by

She will yearn for the memories
That they haven’t made
Long into the future
As her childhood years fade

Our home may be humble
Sweet child of mine
But we’ll make a million memories
To last your whole lifetime
