My Faith

My Faith

When I am full of misery, you see me, and you come to me,
And stand beside me, hidden and unseen,
But I am one who knows you’re there, to help me through, to show you care,
And my faith in you again you do redeem.

In all of my life’s wanderings, whichever path I roam,
I have never been the one to feel that I was, just alone,
Although my grief was heavy sometimes, never have I felt,
That the devil held the hand of cards that I have now been dealt.

I had a trust, you see my friend, a contract made from start to end,
That you would watch my back while I was here,
And in return for giving this, I would embrace your holy kiss,
And follow true your path, year after year.

Now as my path comes to its end, and I approach to you, my friend,
To judge me as a servant of your ways,
I see your shadow standing tall, an example here of faith to all,
To follow you throughout their living days.

You have shielded me with armour strong, and filled my heart with heaven’s song,
I have done my best to follow in your word,
Please put your arms around me now, as humbly at your feet I bow,
And please seat me! At your table now, dear Lord.

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
