My Valentine

My Valentine

We met when I was just sixteen,
my Valentine and me.
they said that it would never last,
he was forty one you see.

Well, more than fifty years went by,
and still we were as one.
We had four lovely children,
one daughter and three sons.

The kids grew up and married,
had children of their own,
but my Valentine has left me now
to live my life alone.

Through hopes and fears,
through joy and tears,
our love it kept us strong.
My memories sustain that love
though my Valentine has gone.

With nothing left but memories
to fill my empty days,
those memories are precious
in so very many ways.

I know for sure the time will come
when we will meet again.
You see, we met when I was just sixteen,
my Valentine and me.
