Shopping for Dad during Coronavirus

Shopping for Dad during Coronavirus

Corona Virus lockdown is fully underway
Dad’s shopping list I picked up yesterday
So I set out to get him all of his needs
Along with the food, he said he’d love some sweet pea seeds.

I organised my shopping bags and my payment card
Working out how to shop wearing one glove was going to be really hard
But I felt I was well prepared so off I set
Arriving at the store – the queue was long but at least it wasn’t wet.

The sun was shining and all was well
I was all organised as far as I could tell.
The bags from the boot I needed to get
I’d not touched anything outside my house as of yet.

The queue was long – and well spaced  out
To speak to anyone I tried not to shout
I began to think of how to shop with a glove on one hand
Complicated I know so I practised while I had to stand.

The queue moved on – we were almost there
When I looked for my shopping list it wasn’t anywhere
Panic! Where could it be? – I’d have to go back around
Had I dropped it – messing with the glove – its probably on the ground.

So back I went and there it was between a man’s feet
Now how could I get it – social distancing I needed to keep.
I couldn’t approach him – I had to stay away
But there was MY shopping list – what could I say?

I pointed and I laughed- then I almost cried
Tension and stress were deep inside
He then bent down and pinched the corner of my list
Gingerly handing it to me hoping Corona Virus he had missed.

So thankful was I – back I went to my place in the queue
Surely now I’d get Dad’s shopping – whilst seeing lots of people I knew.
The trolleys were now in sight – it’s not very far.
Now where’s that £1 coin? – Oh! No! I’ve left it in the car.

Stress! Panic! I can feel you’re here again.
Could I possibly find a trolley that’s not on a chain?
Yes! I’ve found one – now up the travellator I go
Making sure not to touch anything from head to toe.

Can’t believe what I see – sweet pea seeds neatly in a row
A packet I drop in my trolley – Dad will have such a show.
Gloved hand on the trolley- all is going well
I’ll use the hand scanner- its safer as far as I can tell.

But it tells me I now need my Nectar card
But I don’t have with me – it’s back home- this is going to be hard.
Stress! Panic! You’re here again – now what’s the next step?
I’ll use self-checkout – I’ll be careful – what the heck.

With one gloved hand doing all the work I’m succeeding for sure
All the planning I did will soon have me rushing out the door.
Stress! Panic! Now what could be the new prob-lem?
I know I took the bags out of the boot and I have all of them.

But where is my purse with my payment card?
Oh!No! I locked it in the boot – avoiding Corona Virus is very hard.
No way to pay and only sweet pea seeds in my trolley
I don’t know whether to cry or to be jolly

I go to a member of staff and hand her the seeds
Right now I don’t care any more if Dad grows flowers or weeds.
