The Wedding

The Wedding

I’m sitting at home with a bottle and glass
My dog by my side as as we watch the time pass.
While the one that I love is dressed to the nines
In the church where the vicar is reading the lines

That will make the young couple husband and wife
And cleave them together for the rest of their life
It’s quiet and empty alone, just us two
Sitting and wondering what she’s thinking too

But it must be all over, now they’re throwing rice
I really hope that it all went off nice.
But she’ll soon be back with us once again
She’s just been to the wedding of her best friend.

Originally from Guernsey, but now living in Sussex, UK, I started writing poems and song lyrics when I was 16 or 17. I celebrated my 70th birthday last year, and am hoping that I've improved a little during the years between. Been published and also broadcast on local radio. Would love to be rich just so that I could visit Canada more often.
