Tiny Hand

Tiny hand

Little child with tiny hand, let me help you understand,
The many complications of this place,
For you are small and I am tall, and long upon this land,
So let me ease the worry from your face.

The tiny steps that now you tread, I trod those steps before,
My Father taught me taste, and touch, and smell,
And I walked gently in his way as he taught me so much more,
As I learned, and listened, to stories he would tell.

He told me tales of many things, as I will tell to you,
Of nature, and how nature’s things do grow,
And he said life is a garden here, and all that you will do,
Is to reap from life, whatever seed you sow.

You will not always be so small, a giant you will be,
And I will need your strength to help me through,
For whatever path I steer you to, will seal your destiny,
So love must show, in all that you will do.

From tiny steps, to giant’s strides, just love your fellow man,
Reserve no animosity, do all the good you can,
So then, within my resting place, far, far, beyond this land,
I will light an ‘Angel’s star’, – for the child with a tiny hand!.

‘Grow strong and wise sweet child. – With a parent’s guidance,
and love.’

I am a 71 year old retired coal miner, who spent 30 years working underground. Having time on my hands, and in order to keep my brain exercised, I decided to try to write poetry and put down on paper some of my life experience, and my hopes, dreams and other thoughts. I also do a little gardening, but I am hopeless at housework. Much to my wife's displeasure.
