Winter Memories

Winter memories

Porridge-fuelled winter fun in the snow,
Rosie cheeked smiles make a golden glow.
Mum insists I’m a snug little fellow
In a duffle coat of bright gorse yellow.
A stripey rainbow of colourful home knits;
Woolly bobble hat, long scarf and mitts;

Super shiny bright red galoshes;
Happy, giggly, icy puddle sploshers.
Making a new friend from settled snows
Dad’s old hat, scarf, coal eyes, carrot nose.
Sledging white paths through purple heather,
Joyful times in the winter weather.

So many pleasures to learn and try
Under brilliant sun and azure sky.
Too soon the warm cottage fire beckons
Delicious potage devoured in seconds.
Velvety hot cocoa completes the day,
Then off to blissful sleep without delay.
