Are you fed up with the media hounding Harry and Meghan or do you think it is justified?

Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May 2018 was marked by an outpouring of affection in Britain, but less than a year later they found themselves on the receiving end of a barrage of negative stories in the media.

They have ranged from their alleged feuds with Prince William and Kate Middleton to their celebrity-like behaviour, to the young couple’s home being renovated with 2.4 million pounds of taxpayers’ money to reports of Meghan being dubbed “Duchess Difficult” by palace insiders for her “string of demands,” and more recently, for taking frequent luxury flights.

Harry’s popularity with the public has always been incredibly favourable especially when he was serving in the Army, even though his every move as a young royal was scrutinised.

Many royal fans thought that the harsh scrutiny would stop for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after they became parents. However, they gave birth to their son four months ago and the negative reports have not stopped at all.

It would seem that everything the royal couple now do is under scrutiny and criticism, laced with negativity from the media, who seem to be on a mission to discredit the couple in everything they do.

Princess Diana’s tragic death in 1997 has often been used as an example of when the media goes too far. She was one of the most famous women in the world who passed away after a car chase with the paparazzi. However, singer Elton John — who was a close friend of Princess Diana — is seeing a lot of disturbing signs recently that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are going through a similar problem.

What are your views?  Is the negativity portrayed in the press necessary or destructive? Is it time for the press to change its reporting angle? Do you believe what you read in the press?

Are you fed up with the media hounding Harry and Meghan or do you think it is justified?

We can't possibly know what goes on behind closed doors.

But we can know that the press is full of speculation. If we accept that as fact then ... Hitler is still alive, Elvis is a grave digger in El Salvador and worse, the EU really is the fourth Reich.

Prince harry was at the end of the media when he was younger, even to the fact he was unlike his parents n looks so was he a true royal. I have always loved the way that he did his own thing, and marrying the woman he loves shows he is the same young man with a big heart. Go for it Harry, enjoy your life and what you can do for people because of who you are.

What a negative country we are becoming. No wonder there is so much mental and anxiety issues. Even the sunshine does not seem to cheer the nation. Money seems to be the driving force now.

More focus on the clowns in Parliament than on our Royals would be relevant to what is affecting all our lives in the UK. Let them have some privacy and enjoy their new son in peace and with the nations goodwill and support.

The British Media always have someone they hate and try to influence their readers to do the same. I’m totally fed up with the constant negativity of the media on all subjects, not just Harry and Meghan. Why can’t they find positive subjects to write about and inspire us.

My pet soap-box subject...the mischevious media.
I think they are just lazy, they don't follow the trail for a good story anymore, just easy pickings to pick on a lovely couple, just as they did Diana.

How about picking on our corrupt MP's and those who are strutting about with billions in the bank, but are not paying their fair share of taxes?

Loads of stories out there, leave our newly married couple to enjoy their lives!

How about invesitigating the Biased Broadcasting Corporation?

I don't think Meghan "latched on" to Harry, she is of Royal blood herself, is a self confident woman with her own millions. She has in fact richer than Harry.
I think her self-confidence is often misconstrued as arrogance.

Now why would you say she was
attention-seeking? perhaps you know her personally to make that kind of snide judgement?
What a cruel thing to say...a meal ticket indeed.
It is people like you who delight in spreading hate.

You don't work for one of the salacious gossip rags by any chance?

Don't think so. She may not have been known in the UK, but she was well known in the States and, indeed, had plenty of her own money. Is it really difficult to believe that love had something to do with it?

For goodness sake media, pick on someone your own brain size - small. Your type of sensationalism is dead and doesn't impress anyone. What on earth do you know about this or any other member of the Royal Family? When you have something constructive to say we MAY read/listen but until then stick to your type of z-class celebrity.

To be honest, I find the whole thing boring. None of us can see inside his marriage, so how can we comment? People who set themselves up as "celebrities" forego their right to privacy. The royal family do not have the choice, they are forced to live their lives in the limelight.

It's raw bullying, stop it - Royal protocol means that they don't respond so its easy for the press to carry on abusing the image of HRH Harry and HRH Duchess of Sussex. I am not surprised they don't want to venture in the public eye as it would mean more of a personal bashing if they did. I would dearly love someone in the Royal Family to complain to the press. Its a good example of kicking someone when they are down. It could affect someone's mental health. Slander, Slander.

That upsets me too, Buckingham Palace can speak out to deny Andrew was inappropriate, that Catherine had Botox or hair extensions, but not a word to protest the vile racist bashing every day on Meghan. How she tolerates it amazes me.

The press should leave them alone. Report yes but its all the stupid comments. Harry is a very good guy. How many of the journalists have been in the army-Afghanistan etc and put their lives on the line=none! I know they need to sell papers but stop reporting absolute rubbish about them, They are a lovely young couple.

Can I ask in what way do you feel they are ‘having it both ways’? If it’s the private jet, may I remind you that William flew privately to a conference on climate change in Davos, he flew privately to Mustique for his holiday, and frequently flies by helicopter between his two lavish houses. If he is allowed because he is the heir, what about Andrew who flew privately to and from Scotland, then immediately to and from Spain. Why is OK for other Royals, but not Harry and Meghan?

Harry and Meghan constantly preach about sustainability. So, not doing what they preach is "don't do what I do, do what I say". A very old wives tale, which often proves true. If Harry and Meghan had private flights to feel "safe". How come the rest of us "feel safe" on standard flights? Oh yes! the wife likes the publicity.

That's interesting, I have never heard Meghan speak, let alone preach' about sustainability as her passions lie firmly with women's rights and empowerment. Harry certainly has spoken about it, I don't know why you need to use the negatively emotive word preach. However, Charles has been talking about it for decades, William has followed suit, and they both frequently fly privately, as I pointed out in my first reply to you. As to the safety aspect, you may feel safe on standard flights, but then you haven't been pilloried daily for 3 years in the media, nor I suspect have you received countless death threats, or had envelopes containing white powder sent to you. Men have been imprisoned for viable threats against Harry for tainting the Royal blood line! You have no idea of the number or severity of threats received, so please don't comment on them. I trust Harry and their Protection Officers to make the best decisions to keep the family safe.

Why don’t people realise that although these two young people are privileged, they are also on show day after day in their lives. How many of us could stand up to the scrutiny they have to endure. How many of us do everything right all of the time. They are a lovely young couple with a beautiful baby who bring an enormous amount of wealth to this country. The Royal family are expensive, but where else in the world is there anything like them. People flock to the UK in their millions to see the Royal family bringing with them a large part of the income from tourism. Leave them all alone and enjoy the exclusiveness that we have, and thank goodness we do have them.

Thank you for echoing my feelings. Don’t forget how hard they work for their charities and causes, Harry has founded Sentebale, Invictus and now Travalyst alongside many other passions of his, while Meghan in her first year in the Royal Family, mostly while pregnant and on maternity leave has launched the Hubb cookbook, guest edited a massively successful Vogue magazine, and collected designers and retailers together to provide a clothing collection for her charity Smartworks. Their charities have seen an enormous boost and are very grateful!

I think Harry is a well brought up lovely lad amusing caring eg Lesotho children, and loves his family, been through situations that anyone would find difficult and to do that in the public domain 24/7 with guards and others must be so invasive...yet mostly done fine. However I am not so sure of Meghan, not being British has different culture ideas than us , not easy background, seems needy and doesn't quite adhere herself ...forgetting we the British public pay for all she's got. Will they sort it out|? only time will tell 🙂

Please could you explain how she is ‘needy’? She has been doing humanitarian work for years before meeting Harry, and it seems to me she has slotted into this completely strange Royal way of life really well. Could I also point out that all the private and public work of Charles and Camilla, William and Catherine, and Harry and Meghan are paid for from the private income (tax paid!) from the Duchy of Cornwall, which was established in 1337 for exactly that purpose?

We all know we can't believe what is reported in the media. However if it is true that a lot of their staff have resigned this signals a red flag to me in their management of staff .No doubt their charity work is beneficial and I'm sure Harry wishes to carry on his Mother's good work Megan needs time to accept the royal way of life but as she is an American her attitude to self is different to how we
expect members of the Royal Family to behave .I suppose at the end of the day they are the changing face of the Royal Family and one where I hope the remaining senior royals continue to follow in the footsteps of Queen Elizabeth.

The reports of staff resignations have been greatly exaggerated by the Press. They appointed temporary staff while they established their household, so the ‘resignations’ were actually just the natural end of a fixed term of employment. Also it is worth remembering that many staff leave Royal employment after a relatively short time as the work is very intense and not well paid, but looks good on a CV. William and Catherine had exactly the same press reports about staff leaving in their early days.

It simply is not true that a lot of their staff have resigned. They made some interim appointments as they became established, e.g. Samantha Cohen had worked with the Royal Family for 17 years, and had intended retiring, but was asked to work with the Sussexes for 6 months to 'train' Meghan in the ways of Royalty and the Commonwealth. They began meetings shortly after the engagements, and Samantha stayed till after Archie was born - a long 6 months! As Samantha was present at the launch of the Smartworks clothing collections on September 12th, it might be fair to say that the relationship has not soured. Other temporary appointments have come to a natural end as Meghan has become aware of what is needed to help her do her job. It is worth noting that Dickie Arbiter, himself a long standing member of staff, has noted that working for the RF is extremely intense and burn out happens frequently. It is also used as a stepping stone, as it looks very good on a CV. By the way, the papers were full of the exact same stories of staff leaving in droves for William and Catherine. As you say, don't believe anything in the tabloids.

All publicly paid employees 5.8 million, e.g. teachers, police officers, armed forces, politicians) are entitled to a private life. I was a teacher wholly paid by the tax payer, nobody ever needed to know what colour wallpaper I had, or the name of my children’s godparents. When William and Catherine announced they wanted privacy for George, they were lauded, this was hailed as the monarchy moving into a modern age. And yet Archie, who does not have a royal title, seems fair game. I do understand her friends flocking to her defence as the attacks have been relentless and threatening.

So we keep being told, so why the intense interest from the Press? The Mail online has a tab just for Meghan, no other Royal, just her. One day while she was on maternity leave, there were 64 articles posted about her in the British Press. 64, and she wasn’t even working! Harry May be 6th in line, but he and his wife generate more column inches than all the other Royals put together, 99% of it negative.

The news "hounds" are a disgrace but all they are interested in is getting the story and the more salacious or dirt the better as it sells newspapers. I was brought up to think that if you don't have anything nice to say about people don't say anything at all. I am really fed up with all the negativity surrounding the couple. I think the press are deliberately fuelling a hate campaign thinking it will sell papers. Who actually knows them personally. Some of the speculation amazes me. We have recently cancelled all newspapers as I am fed up with the reporting and don't actually believe a thing in them. Leave poor Harry alone and let him live his life - he has a kind heart like his mother and doesn't deserve this.

They are funded by private tax paid income from the Duchy of Cornwall, established in 1337 to finance the heir to the throne. Charles has worked very hard developing the Duchy, and its revenue finances him and Camilla, William and Catherine, and Harry and Meghan. You know they don’t receive a salary for all the work they do for their country and charities, don’t you?

As the Ducky of Cornwall was established by the King in 1337, I would like ot suggest it was established using the King's money collected from the public. This ringfences an income generating large piece of England, to fund the Duke of Cornwall and his immediate family. I think may of us would swap our lifestyle for theirs even if it included "not receiving a salary". If they want to be a normal family, then get a job you have to go to for 40 hours a week, then do your own washing, cooking , cleaning at weekends. Get a mortgage and buy a house, where you are responsible to pay for everything which your house needs. Then you can demand privacy. All the time you receive public money, live in a house, where you neither pay rent, repairs, maintenance, upkeep, electricity bill etc. You do not have the right to absolute privacy except for your friends from America!

You do know there are lots of very rich families with huge amounts of land and properties who do nothing for the country? You will have a really hard time proving that land owned in 1337 was obtained from 'public money'. Look up the Duke of Westminster or Earl Cadogen, they are waaaay richer than the Royal family, yet their fortunes come from property. Indeed the Queen has dropped off the list of top 300 richest people.
