Do you mainly use cash or cards?

With the days of paper banknotes numbered we ask if anyone still uses them.

Love them or hate them polymer banknotes are here to stay and just like the £5 and £10 notes the remaining paper £20 and £50 notes will be out of circulation soon. The 30th of September to be exact.

“The majority of paper banknotes have now been taken out of circulation, but a significant number remain in the economy, so we’re asking you to check if you have any at home,” said the Bank of England’s chief cashier, Sarah John, whose signature is on the new notes.

An estimated 163 million paper £50 banknotes and about 314 million £20 paper notes are still in circulation, the Bank said.

From October, people with a UK bank account will still be able to deposit the paper notes into their account or at the Post Office, but not able to spend them in the shops.

So hurry! Clear out the key drawer and rummage behind the sofa. You’ve got 100 days and counting…

Do you have a stock of £20 or £50 notes to use up? Do you even use cash any longer?
