Is it time to have a female Doctor in Dr Who?

Who’ll be the next star of Doctor Who? Could a woman play the Doctor? How will the new Doctor differ from Peter Capaldi’s incarnation?

With a history spanning more than five decades, Doctor Who has earned its place as one of the nation’s best-loved series.

And as the world’s longest running science fiction show, it has gained a cult following across the globe.

Generations have been gripped by battles between the Daleks and Davros, Cybermen, Zygons, new monsters like the Veil and old foes the Time Lords.

And the actors lucky enough to step into the coveted shoes of the Time Lord have gone on to become household names.

The 13th Doctor will be announced soon, and there is much speculation as to who is in the running. Let’s indulge in the national pastime of predicting who might be next.

If a woman were to wield the sonic screwdriver, fans have been favouring the likes of Olivia Colman, Miranda Hart, Tilda Swinton, Helena Bonham Carter and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

What are your views?  Are you a Dr Who fan? Would you like to see a female Doctor? Who is your all time favourite Doctor?

I suppose when your liver is hanging out and you need immediate surgery, you would not be shouting about PC or getting too upset at having a female Surgeon who will put you back together again.
A female Dr Who is taking her rightful place, which was usurped by a male.

Don't throw anything, I am not good at ducking!

Kris Marshall would get my vote, nothing to do with male or female but he has a certain eccentricity about him as an actor and that appeals.

Yes lets have a change-It would put some fresh thinking into Dr Who and she can have a young male assistant for a change. Makes a lot of sense and after all it is 2017!-the Time Lordess...or The Time Lady! yes that sounds good!

Definitely not a female Doctor Who; the wonderful Adrian Lester would be my choice.

Dr Who is a "Time Lord" what would a female Dr Who be called? Would the Daleks treat her any differently?

Catherine Tate is nutty enough to fill the role.

I think Miranda Hart would be great in the part and bring some humour back like we had with David Tennant.

Although I am not a big fan of Dr Who anymore, I think Helena Bonham Carter would be fantastic in the role. Miranda Hart could also be quite entertaining. I think it is about time after 50 years to have a woman in the leading role - I wonder what the implications would be to having a female 007?? Jane Bond - Aperol Sprizter shaken not stirred!
