Will you be giving something up for Lent?

The 40 days of Lent, running from Ash Wednesday until Easter is the traditional time to make a sacrifice and give something up that you enjoy. 

This year however, alongside limiting the usual chocolate, alcohol, sugar, coffee or internet time, some of us have been trying to see if we can give up something that will benefit the planet and reduce our carbon footprint, in the hope that it’ll have much more of a lasting impact than just the traditional 40 days.

Many of us are vowing to only shop locally, some are trying to buy produce that has minimum air miles, and others are making an effort to perhaps use their car just once a week or even go completely meat-free.

Another trend is to set achievable goals for Lent such as exercising the NHS recommended 30 minutes a day, finishing an outstanding DIY project, or digging over the vegetable patch and growing your own.
