Would you buy an Easter egg made of cheese?

An Easter egg made of Cheddar cheese will go on sale at a high street supermarket next month.

The Cheesalicious Easter Egg, made produced by Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses, is billed by Sainsbury’s as “the perfect alternative Easter gift for those who favour savoury over sweet”.

Emma Garvey, cheese buyer for Sainsbury’s, said: “We’re always looking for new and unique products to offer to our customers, especially during gifting periods throughout the year when people are on the lookout for something special to give their loved ones.

“The Cheesalicious Easter Egg seemed like an obvious and exciting choice to expand our Easter egg offering and cater to cheese aficionados nationwide.”

The egg is made from 120g of cheddar cheese with a “smooth and soft texture” which, according to Sainsbury’s, makes it ideal for spreading on oatcakes with some chutney – both of which are included in the pack.

Ms Garvey said: “The egg is truly delicious and we can’t wait to see the response from our customers.”

The egg costs £5 and will be available in stores from April 10.

It’s got to be a chocolate Easter egg! A cheese Easter egg doesn’t sound very appealing!

I love chocolate and I love cheese, but the very thought of an easter egg made of cheese makes me want to gag. I will not be buying one of these.

I like my easter egg either a hens egg or a ducks egg hard boiled and the shell painted in a decrorative colour.
Cheese is better in a sandwich or preferably on a current teacake.

Yes please. Good for my bones too. Suppose it will be in the cooler though. Bit of a novelty really.....and why not? Probably an expensive way to buy cheese but then choc eggs are an expensive way to buy chocolate.

Definitely not, I can’t think of anything much dafter. It is a sign of rebirth like a hens egg or any other type. Why on earth would anybody want to eat that amount of cheese which is not part of a meal and I presume they would have to be refrigerated as all other cheese does which is not very convenient due to the way they are packed.

Don't like cheese and, unfortunately, love chocolate so I shall be sticking to the traditional chocolate Easter egg! 🙂

Only buy Easter eggs for grandchildren, would never consider cheese eggs. Artisan cheese would be a nice present and we buy for ourselves but cheese eggs? I don't think so.

It's ridiculous as Easter eggs are made of chocolate for children to enjoy on Easter Sunday. The idea of a Easter egg made of cheese is totally unhealthy and nothing to do with Easter in my opinion.

Marie 1, whilst understanding the point you are making, surely chocolate is hardly a healthy option!

If one acknowledges the reality of global warming or catastrophic climate change surely non essential manufactured products should be dropped asap.

This would leave us natural eggs from hens which we could have in even in small gardens. These could be decorated as we all did at one time then if these are wanted to be eaten can be dipped in fondue or with greated cheese or as scotch eggs.

Those wanting chocolate look at glorious painted / dyed eggs while drinking hot cocoa chocolate or eating home made choc cakes.

Manufactured chocolate eggs are hollow and break very easily just like our planet we need to care for to ensure we survive. They have no religious / superstitious value only profit value at huge monetary and more destructive costs to our planets health.

It is time for us mindlessly frivolous humans to be far more responsible for the devastating impact we have had since we began thinking ourselves as wise and knowledgable.

For all our so called enlightenment / educations we are deep in the real dark ages of mankind having discarded the notion of living within the survivable parameters our ancient ones respected and complied with. Natural balance ...

Have I gone mad or is it this country-first Brexit and now Easter Cheese Eggs? I may eat it but it would have to be Stilton flavour and I would need some port with it and crackers!

Hmmm.. let me think about this for a while.........No!
As a chocolate junkie, the very idea sends me apoplectic.
Who came up with this insane idea?
But then, there are cheese lovers like Wallace who may love a cheese egg..... Gromit, get shopping.
