Would you like to have a White Christmas?

With a plunge in temperatures all over the UK this week some of us are asking if we are likely to have snow at Christmas this year.

The definition that the Met Office uses to define a white Christmas is for one snowflake to be observed falling in the 24 hours of 25 December somewhere in the UK but the chance of widespread snow on 25th December is usually pretty low.

The last time it was generally considered to be a true White Christmas was 12 years ago when widespread snow was recorded across Northern Ireland, Scotland, parts of Wales, the Midlands, the north east and far south west England in 2010.

The Met Office says that they can only accurately forecast if snow is likely on Christmas Day up to five days ahead but  with their prediction of a colder than average winter in the UK and Ireland perhaps we may well have that traditional snowy Christmas scene after all this year?

Ladbrokes certainly think so as the latest bets put the odds at 4/5 of snow falling on 25th December in the UK.

What do you think?

Would you like it to snow at Christmas this year?
