Would you like to star in ‘Silver Love Island’?

In case you’ve spent the last 72 hours living under a rock: Love Island is back.

Aimed at the younger generation, Love Island is a reality dating show where single people move to a luxury paradise in the hope of finding love and the summer of their life. To remain in their luxury paradise, contestants must couple up and win the hearts of each other and the public, as they ultimately decide who stays on ‘Love Island’ and who goes.

Love Island’s return to TV screens was watched by an average of 3.3 million viewers – the highest for a launch in the show’s history.

Since the reality dating show was revived by ITV2 in 2015, overnight ratings for the first episode have increased every year.

The contestants are always 20 somethings, who are chiselled beauties and visually perfected for the TV screen.

The series airs for eight weeks and the winning couple stands to pocket £50,000.

So is it time to shake it up a bit? How about a Love Island for the older generation?  Would you like to spend a summer on location in a fabulous villa trying to find the love of your life?

Could be as good as any place to meet someone, at least it is in a real place and not online dating!

Spring on Alderney ... now that's something to savour. First time I was there was as a student. Fog swamped the island. Spent 7 days, and a few nights in the local bar - a Nissen hut! Then the lighthouse foghorn kept us awake. But it was 1971.

Sounds wonderful Lionel. I went to Guernsey back in the 60s as a child for the flower festival. I would love to go to the Outer Hebridies and Shetland Islands as well. Not exactly love islands but almost certainly a lot more interesting! One day!

I cannot think of anything worse, it is just people seeking their 15 mins of fame. Would real love come out of it? I doubt it.

Love to Love our Island instead where our nation can even contemplate loving ourselves and making our country work in a lovely healthy way. However we seem to be a nation of love to hate and hate to compromise or accept anothers views and values.

Love Island is for shallow particpants whos creedo is "I love only me" Just like the audience loving the participants for being so delightfully up for being ridiculed behind their backs. Just like our society ... sad, sick and silly.

I will happily live under a stone if I don't have to be subjected to this sort of vacuous drivel, or the people who take part in it. But I have free will to avoid. IN fact, I am not sure why I have engaged about it at all. By doing so, perhaps I am feeding the monster(s).

Love Island is brainless, dangerous, exploitative, cheap rubbish TV.

Two participants have committed suicide after their appearances on the show which is just an excuse to show off fit bodies to make the insta generation even more paranoid about how they look.

It's as bad if not worse than Jeremy Kyle and should be banned!

I have never seen the programme but I understand the suicides happened at least two years after appearing on the programme so it may be a little unfair to assume the programme was the cause. Mind you I had never watched the Jeremy Kyle programme either but both attracted wide audiences.

I agree. Can’t understand why Jeremy Kyle was taken off but Love Island allowed to go ahead as their record of suicide is just as bad! Money the key.

I totally, I’m appalled at ITV for not looking at all the good Jeremy did, the young people he saved from drugs... I miss him....

I haven’t seen Love Island , but I can’t imagine walking along pouting in a micro bikini. The thought of a silver series is very funny though .

I cannot think of anything less appealing. I lack the arrogance, and I suppose the six pack and pecs. Also I could not afford the cost of surgery to remove the requisite number of brain cells and all sense of decency.

Hello Billy. My wife is as well as expected, and thanks for asking. Sadly my 15 year old Collie is on his way out now. Been nursing him for a while. Another of my Collies had a stroke recently.

I sometimes think I bought the county sick house!

A free two month holiday in the sunshine and a possible £50k bonus! What's not to like? Actually I have never seem one episode so perhaps this is a bit naive of me, but life is short and I'm all for making hay while the sun shines 🙂

As long as I could wear full gear, no bikinis or swimsuits or swimming. It would be a nice holiday fully paid and some pocket money, very nice.
Perhaps a George Clooney type?
Must remember to take my iron to iron my wrinkly suit 🙂

I'd need a steam iron to press my wrinkly face, Yodama. That said I don't think I've got the energy for Love Island's intimate gymnastic displays.

Phew, glad you said steam iron and not steam roller Lionel.
Don't think I am up to gymnastics either. Perhaps a pensioner Love Island wouldn't expect us to leave our zimmer frames for long!
