Experience Whistler with Canadian Sky

A perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors, Whistler is a favourite for many when looking for a beautiful multi-day stop during a fly-drive through the Western Canada.

Most famous as a winter-sports resort, this mountain town is just as stunning when the snow recedes to the ancient glaciers and the alpine wild flowers cover the hillsides.

The highlight of Whistler is the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola, which links the two mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb. Ascending to either summit, you will discover panoramic views of majestic mountains and coastal rainforests. From the top of Whistler Mountain, you’ll be treated to views over the peaks and glaciers of Black Tusk, the Tantalus Range and the magnificent Garibaldi Provincial Park.

If you’re looking to explore off-mountain, there is a huge network of hiking trails and paths, from relaxing valley strolls and short excursions through spectacular old-growth forests and waterfalls, to more challenging hikes up into the alpine meadows. You can discover Garibaldi Lake, Brandywine Falls, Whistler Interpretive Forest and the Cheakamus River on foot at your own pace.

The charming pedestrianised centre of Whistler is filled with shops, restaurants and cafes, offering everything from fine dining and organic farm-to-table fare to quality pub grub. Enjoy skilfully-crafted gourmet dishes at world-class Araxi, fresh West Coast cuisine at Red Door Bistro, or simply head to one of Whistler’s many popular outdoor patios to relax and soak up the sun and scenery.

Close to the centre of the village you will find the fascinating Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, which showcases Whistler’s two First Nation Cultures, with exhibits, song and dance ceremonies, traditional story-telling and craft-making. Just a few minutes walk from here is the Audain Art Museum, where the award-winning building is home to beautiful displays of British Columbia art.

Hard to describe, but well worth experiencing is the “Vallea Lumina”. Put simply, it is a night walk through an immersive light show set in the forested surrounds of Cougar Mountain. Take the trail through the old-growth forest and enjoy the story with stunning lighting and sound effects.

Whistler is home to a diverse array of wildlife, from red-tailed hawks and coyote, to coastal mountain deer and marmots. But nothing beats catching sight of a majestic black bear, perhaps the most iconic creature to grace Whistler’s slopes. The area is home to over 50 black bears, so there are great opportunities for spotting these fascinating animals in their natural habitat. As you’re riding the gondolas keep an eye out below and you may catch a glimpse of a bear ambling along a trail or trampling through bushes foraging for berries. Black bears are also regularly seen sharing the greens with golfers at Whistler’s renowned golf courses, but if you want the chance to get up close and learn a little more, join the experts for a highly recommended bear viewing eco-tour.
