EXCLUSIVE 10% DISCOUNT ON OFF-PEAK VILLA HOLIDAYS

With the high summer season nearing its end, we thought we’d look ahead a little and ask them what they love most about holidaying in the heart of the Mediterranean in autumn and spring. Here’s what they told us.

The perfect climate for luxury villa stays

In May, June, September and October, average daytime temperatures hover between the mid- and the upper- 20s. The sun shines brightly in azure skies, the transparent sea is irresistible, and al fresco dining is de rigueur. Somewhat cooler than July and August, these months are also ideal for more active outdoor pursuits, such as hiking in the mountains, cycling and horse riding.

Embrace the time and space

Wherever you go in the Mediterranean in spring and autumn, you’ll feel you have more time to linger and more space to do your own thing. You’ll be able to lose yourself in evocative archaeological sites, you’ll have no problem bagging a secluded spot on the beach, and you’ll find the region’s most picturesque and historic towns pleasantly uncrowded.

Enjoy the gastronomic plenty

In spring, market stalls groan with bounteous local produce. Come autumn, and the vineyards are a hive of activity as the grapes are picked and pressed. A few weeks later it’s time for the olives. In both seasons, towns and villages celebrate the fruits of their labours with festivals and events. Everyone’s invited and it’s a great opportunity to mingle with local communities.

A smoother journey, greater flexibility

Fewer travellers mean that airports are less crowded out of high season. Delays and cancellations are not so likely, and, as demand drops, so do airfares. Similarly, prices for accommodation fall, and, at least where The Thinking Traveller is concerned, greater flexibility is possible: in spring and autumn, many of the company’s villas can be booked for any number of nights (from 4 upwards), and you can arrive and depart on any day of the week.

The Thinking Traveller is renowned for its every-step-of-the-way approach to service: its Villa and Experience Specialists regularly visit the company’s properties, so you’ll receive transparent, in-depth advice while you’re planning; then, while you’re away, you’ll be able to call on the infinite resourcefulness of their Local Concierges whenever you need.
