Dream Extreme … enjoy our amazing world!

Ever had that feeling that you want a real adventure in life? Or lots of adventures!  Time is ticking and YOLO! (You Only Live Once)

Well here it is; this section of Silverhairs is dedicated to “Extreme” holidays and adventures. Many people in their 50’s and 60’s still go skiing, mountaineering, diving, mountain biking, sailing and most of all hiking. My father in his 70’s was still climbing mountains!

Dream Extreme is going to feature amazing activities and trips and give you details about how to book them yourself. We welcome features from our members so if you have an amazing adventure you would like to share with others we would be happy to publish it here.   Just send an email to [email protected]

DOLOMITES

Some of our Dream Extremes are very adrenaline fuelled such as climbing the Via Ferrata (Italian for Iron Road) in the stunning Italian Dolomite Mountains www.visitdolomites.com/en, others are more sedate such as hiking the Lycian Way in Turkey which has beautiful views as it winds around the Mediterranean coast www.lycianway.com.

THE LYCIAN WAY

Others are just amazing fun; try river rafting in wonderful places like Rotorua in North Island New Zealand www.kaitaki.co.nz where there is a whole host of activities from trout fishing to gentle hiking and exploring the fascinating volcanic bubbling mud pools and spectacular geisers then relaxing in volcanic water spas.

WHITE WATER RAFTING NEW ZEALAND

Closer to home try hiking in England’s beautiful Peak District or riding or fishing the opportunities are endless see http://www.visitpeakdistrict.com/ for more details.

Have you ever tried mountain biking? It’s fun and keeps you amazingly fit and you don’t have to be Sir Chris Hoy to enjoy it! There are places all over England and friendly instructors you can find online. Surrey has some of the best at Box Hill where the Olympic Cycle race took place and nearby Leith Hill in Dorking.  All Biked Up http://www.allbikedup.com  operate mountain bike instruction & guided rides in the Surrey Hills.   In Wales which has hundreds of miles of wonderful trails see http://www.mbwales.com/

Sailing up the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia is more sedate and a wonderful adventure in this yachting paradise. There are rugged islands all along the mountainous coast with lovely small fishing ports to enjoy a well earned rest. The picturesque town of Split is the best way to start and there are budgets to suit everyone see http://www.sail-croatia.com/ and www.sunsail.co.uk/Croatia

SAILING IN CROATIA

How about driving in the great outdoors of the USA. Arizona has to be one of the most stunning destinations in the USA. It’s easy to rent a car and drive from Phoenix (daily flights from Heathrow with British Airways on www.ba.com) through the Sonoran Desert with amazing cactuses and miles of open road. Up through Flagstaff and into the Grand Canyon truly one of the world’s greatest sights. For an equally incredible place to visit keep driving over the border to Utah and visit Monument Valley with its stunning Red Sandstone Buttes hosting a variety of sights and activities see http://www.utah.com/monumentvalley/

MONUMENT VALLEY

Silverhairs will have many features in Dream Extreme from budget experiences to 5 star;  astonishing experiences don’t have to cost a fortune. Trekking is great value and so long as you are fit and healthy can be enjoyed by all. http://www.exodus.co.uk/ and http://www.explore.co.uk/ both have a wide portfolio of hikes all over the world.
