Never too old to blog!

Hello my name is Chrissie. I’ve not only got to my old age (which amazes me!) I’ve learnt how to use a computer, Facebook and run my own blog. If I can do it, you can do it too!

As I child I was so clever that I skipped a full year of school. I went to an old, all girls grammar school – a full year before my classmates – and sailed through with a cull complement of the old style O and A levels. I still remember a lot of what I learnt – even now.

Family life, my own poor health (I had breast cancer among other things) and then caring for my mum took over my life, as it does for many women, and I seemed to spend all my time running our busy house and seeing to everyone else.

Fourteen years ago we bought a house at the seaside. Work commitments, money and looking after my mum who was by now completely disabled and had dementia, meant that a full-time life by the sea was as much a pipe dream for us as it is for the next person.

In the end it was a building project that pushed us into making the move. One thing had led to another and we had to be on site to supervise our completely insecure house, and at that point we discovered that we could in fact run our well established business from another county – so that was it!

We fell in love with our new adopted home which is in a quiet spot just north of Blackpool. So much so that we started a website about the place, and again, one thing led to another and one website became seven!

By now I’d had twenty plus years of listening to three people eating, sleeping and breathing computers – they never stop. So I finally thought that if you can’t beat them, join them, got my own computer and put my left foot forward!

My daughter Jane had previously started a blog and decided that if I took it over it would be one less job for her. It was also somewhere that I could practise my new skills and the writing which I’d enjoyed for years at school.

With lessons from Jane and a bit of hand-holding I got my sea legs and I now write every day – and about all kinds of things. It still doesn’t feel real that I’m lucky enough to live at the seaside, so I write about living here a lot. There’s also Homer, our tame seagull who visits every day, the community group that we are part of, and then the topical things that happen that get my goat!

I’d say that you need some help in getting online, especially when you get to my age and the cogs tick that little bit more slowly, but I’d certainly recommend it. It opens up a whole new world to you, and I certainly am enjoying my new career as a resident blogger!
