Financial advice websites

If you’re suffering from financial problems, it can be a huge strain on your life and your personal relationships. But there’s no need to suffer in silence. Today, financial advice and help is available from a range of sources, both online and offline.

Hoping to find some online tips that will improve your money management? These financial advice websites could help take the weight off your mind.

Financial advice from the government

The government’s main financial advice website is The Money Advice Service. Launched in 2011, you’ll find free, detailed information on money and budgeting here. The board is appointed by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) too, so you can be sure the advice you’re reading is by government-sanctioned experts.

The Money Advice Service covers a range of possible scenarios. Its debt management section, for instance, is ideal for anyone who’s afraid their debts are getting out of control. There’s mortgage advice too, as well as a guide to borrowing money when you need it. And if you’re worried about your savings, you’ll find tips here on how to set a savings goal and what to do if things go wrong with an investment.

There are a number of chapters that deal with major life events too. So if you’re a first-time buyer, you’re expecting a baby or you’re about to retire, there’s information here on how to prepare your finances for the future that awaits. And if you’ve lost your job or you’re getting divorced, their advice could be a lifeline when you need it most.

For practical help, go to the Money Advice Service’s Tools and Resources section. Here, you’ll find budget planners, savings calculators and comparison tables to help you make financial decisions. Additionally, its Money Health Check facility could give you wake-up call on the state of your finances.

Elsewhere, Gov.uk – the government’s newest all-in-one information portal – has important information on benefits. So if you’re not sure how the newest changes to the benefit system will affect your family, visit this site to find out more.

Other sources of help online

Although many people take comfort in the government’s financial advice, there’s plenty of other experts that can help you online too. MoneySavingExpert.com is probably the UK’s leading money help website, with particularly useful sections on banking, insurance, mortgages and utilities. For everyday savings, there are regularly updated posts on deals at restaurants and shops around the UK – so the site could help you save a few pounds when you’re having fun.

Alternatively, if you’d like to find a financial advisor, sites like Unbiased.co.uk can help narrow down your search. In-person financial advice could be just what you need when things are bad. Remember, online advice can be very useful, especially when it’s from a well-respected or government-approved source. However, it’s important to watch out for more unreliable advice sites that are hoping to cash in on your financial uncertainty. So if you’re not sure about the provenance of an online source, make sure you get a second opinion from an approved financial advisor.
