The UK’s property market is one of the world’s most developed – not to mention among its most expensive.

People in the UK prize their homes, whether they’re owned or rented. And the variety of estate agents that exist around the country are testament to the sophistication of the market here.

But how do you know which estate agents are worth their salt? Through a quick online search, you’ll discover a range of estate agents with great reputations all around the country.

Top UK estate agents online

One of the UK’s biggest and best agents is Savills. With over 500 offices around the world, Savills is a truly global estate agent. So whether you’re looking for a house for sale in London or a commercial building in Hong Kong, there’s plenty of choice to be had here. It’s a British success story too, with the first branch of Savills founded in East London in 1855. And if you’re keeping an eye on the property market, its regularly updated news feed is a great source of information.

Strutt & Parker is another leading UK estate agent for both residential and commercial buyers. Founded in 1885, they have 49 offices in England and Scotland, from Exeter in the south-west to Inverness in the far north. As well as searching for property by location, you can also search by lifestyle – so if you’re looking for a house near prime fishing sites, this is the place to search.

Knight Frank are major UK estate agents too, and well-known across the world. Their website is handily divided into residential, commercial, investment and development properties – so whatever you’re looking for, this agent could have the solution. Knight Frank are also renowned for their emphasis on research, so you can find reports on several global property areas here. Their annual Wealth Report is one of the industry’s most anticipated publications, and it’s essential reading for anyone who wants to know more about the property market.

If you’re looking for another option, Countrywide’s network of UK estate agents is a great place to start looking for property online. You can find out more about the company at the Countrywide website but if you want to search for their properties online, you’ll need to visit

Estate agents in your region

Although UK-wide estate agents have a large and varied selection of properties to browse online, it’s important not to underestimate the value of your local estate agents either. DJ Alexander, for instance, specialises in properties in Glasgow and Edinburgh, while Sarah Mains is a leading property agent in Newcastle and the north-east.

Further south, Hill Clements is a leading estate agent in Guildford with a great range of properties and local expertise. Winkworth is an international estate agent, but its local London offices boast detailed knowledge of neighbourhoods all over the capital, from Shepherds Bush to Hackney. And in Brighton and Hove, is the leading estate agent for property to buy and rent, with an easy-to-use website to boot.
