Who is your preference for the next Prime Minister?

Tory infighting has continued following the dramatic leadership votes which saw Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt make it through to the final stage of the contest to be the next Prime Minister.

The final outcome of the leadership contest will not be known until the week beginning July 22, with the two remaining candidates taking part in a series of hustings in front of Tory members around the country before the votes are counted.

Mr Johnson and Mr Hunt will also take part in a head-to-head debate on ITV on July 9.

Labour campaign chief Andrew Gwynne said the country faced a choice between “the man who broke the NHS or the man who wants to sell it to Donald Trump” and called for a general election.

The chosen leader of the Tory party will become the next Prime Minister; voters will not have the opportunity to have their say.

Who is your preference for the next Prime Minister? Share your vote in our poll below.

One is a Weasel. Has all the bad traits associated with the word.

One is a Giant Lion and has heart, soul, brains and brawn for doing a job of work.

There can only be one choice for me, and it's no contest to which one I choose.

Dealing with disabilites is hard enough, but when you see a world class wife doing such a truly wonderful job, caring for you. You really think all the time I must be the most luckiest man in this world. Take yesterday , we took our old dog Guy aged 12 and our young dog Winston 15 months to a beach near us. But sadly Winston was in a play mode , he refused to come back to her, but what upset me terribly , see her when she got him, fall over on the beach, all day I see that picture and my heart fill so heavy. I been married for 49 years in October, it has been the best marriage you could ever get. I won the lottery of life marrying her

Good for you mate. I too am a dog man; just lost my 15 year old blue merle Collie boy and his bitch. To see my wife, who has MS, utterly break her heart at losing her two dogs in 10 days was almost more than I could bear. We married too late to have our own kids so these dogs were, I say quite unashamedly, our kids. In complete understanding Baz, my heart is with yours.

Please keep on posting on Silver Surfers. You're an inspiration to me and `i think probably to many.

Jeremy Hunt is employing two Canadians to advise him in the Brexit negotiations should he win.
Why Canadian, nobody worthy enough in Britain for Jeremy?

Oh dear... what a difficult decision... I ended up not voting for either, but if absolutely forced to, Mr Hunt would get my vote. Both gentlemen have proved total disasters, though Jeremy seems less of a loose cannon than Boris.

Jeremy Hunt has done untold damage to the NHS, though my feeling is that many members of the government are looking forward to the day the country adopts a US style of heal.

As for Boris Johnson, I look at his record as Mayor of London, Foreign Secretary, comments from a former employer & a letter sent to his father by a teacher at Eton.

What the country needs is a general election to rid ourselves of this Tory Government.

I now await the abuse my comments & opinion will doubtless unleash...

An easy decision for me, Jeremy Hunt has messed up the NHS and completely let the country down on that. From reading different articles it would seem he has not been successful holding any post in government so that leaves Boris for me. Wish I could vote for Nigel Farage but that will come at a later date I feel sure.

I do think that Boris will be tougher on holding out on an agreement with the EU until we get a fair deal and that is what we need a tough negotiator.

We do not need a remainer and Theresa May man handling Brexit.

It’s a tuff call , but I think Boris is more transparent, what you see is what you get .
I would like to think that he will do what’s best, he’s stubborn but we don’t need another push over .
When we are out that’s the time for doing deals in my humble opinion .

Boris has always been a leave EU believer and we need someone who actually wants this to work. He is portrayed as a buffoon but I think it is becoming more obvious that the establishment and the media is against him and what is reported needs to be viewed with this in mind. His private life is his own business. The behaviour of parliament so far has been an insight into just how self interested most MP's are and how poor they are at understanding the process of negotiation. We need to be clear that the present situation cannot go on. Delay is damaging our businesses and costing millions that could be better spent. Boris seems to be our best bet.

do not believe what I am hearing from these fools, the Government should make them pay for it, if they are not going to, my wife & I spend a lot of time in Spain, & believe, if you have a accident or are taken ill, the first place the ambulance will take you is a private clinic, not to a hospital,as, I think that they get a kick back, & the first thing they ask you is, how are you going to pay, ave you got INS, if not can you pay, if not the ANB will then take you to a hospital, were they will ACC you a111, so why is that not happening here, 7 for them to say it is racist, my god, what planet are they on, we are now a Country of many colours & national's, so how does that go down with them then!!!!!

With Mr Hunt it will be the exactly same 3yrs. He talks like Patricia, was a remainer voter and favoured staying in the Custom Union. He voted for Pat's deal each and every time it was put to the vote. Now he says we must leave good deal or no deal. This all sounds exactly the same.
On the other hand Boris largely, led the leave side and now wants to follow it through. We must have a leaver MP if our democracy is to survive otherwise we may as well rip up the Magna Carta

JeremyHunt is not to be trusted. We would be getting another May. He is a remainer. And when he says he will give Boris the fight of his life what he means is a dirty fight. Boris has never called him. Hunt is very unpopular with the NHS he has ruined it. He is the one who suggested that the BBC took over the television licences. And talking to the US about the NHS. And his own expenses well now he did not come clean.

Hunt not to be trusted comes a cross as mister nice guy but look at his history in politics not as nice as he seems. Ruthless and lies like a lot of them. Boris May not be squeaky clean but although he may act like a clown he is a very intelligent man. His private life is his not for everyone.

We don't need Boris or Hunt but that's where we are at the moment. Boris is a buffoon and is a narcissist. He uses racist remarks like saying muslim women look like letter boxes, black people are picanninies. He caused Nazanin Zaghari Radcliffe to have her sentence extended when she was about to be released. He was a useless Foreign Sectrary. He got stuck on a rip wire looking like a fool waving the Union Flag. How much did it cost for water cannons which never got used whilst he was Mayor of London.

Jeremy Hunt under his mask of an amiable, smiling, family guy, has a ruthless streak.
He will weild it against Boris for sure as they race neck and neck to the finish line.

Boris...undoubtedly not as smooth as JH, is being stitched up.
That there is a relentless plot to discredit him by the media, is patently clear. A plot orchestrated by??....

Bit of a Hobson's Choice, I don't respect either of them.

From a well informed blogger:

He used his relative Virginia Bottomley to establish a monopoly-supply deal for his company Hotcourses with eternally bent crony-quango The British Council. When Hunt screwed up the first job the BC commissioned, Bottomley covered for him and hid the invoicing relationship from the authorities. He conspired with his business partner to falsify employee reports and win a Newscorp Employer of the Year Award. When Bottomley ascended to the House of Lords as Baroness Nettlestone, Hunt got her South West Surrey seat. For years he lied about the Bottomley family connection, until this site forced him to change his Wikipedia entry to admit it.

He was a prime fixer while in opposition, brokering the deal with Newscorp to switch from New Labour to Cameron’s Conservatives in 2010. He abused his position as Culture Secretary to oil the wheels of a full Murdoch takeover of Sky, and when caught in the act, redacted over 100 emails from the subsequent inquiry in a bid to cover his tracks. Somehow, he survived…and was being lined up for the chop by Cameron until a combination of pressure from Newscorp and shady Tory donor money suddenly saw him promoted to Health Secretary.

In that latter role, he misled both hospital doctors and nurses, persistently created funding difficulties for NHS regions, brought in thousands of private agency staff to exacerbate the cost issues, ignored the blatant need for higher tech, and engaged eagerly in both the creeping privatisation of gp services and out-sourcing of hospital contracts. He remained – of course – in close touch with Nettlestone…a lobbyist in the Lords for private health insurer PPP. Jeremy claimed to be a lifelong fan of the NHS; but in 2008, he co-wrote with Dan Hannan a Conservative policy paper asserting that it should be “demolished brick by brick”.

As foreign secretary, he has followed NATO’s absurd Russophobia, gleefully retailing the endless lies and exaggerations about Putin’s “intentions”. He was a solid Remainer in 2016 and – despite attempts at times to sound touchy-leavy – he remains an enthusiastic neocon eurocrat wedded to the idea of special relationships and federalist projects.

If you care to read his Wikipedia page it alludes to many other dark dealings set to enhance his career or wealth. The Murdoch connection is very worrying since he influences national/international politics but not for the greater good.

You don't need a plot to discourage against Boris he does that himself. He's a buffoon and would make a disastrous Prime Minister. He says he will take the UK out of EU by the 31st October but he knows it's not possible. If the Irish border is not solved then Brexit is up the creek without a paddle. They will be breaking the Good Friday agreement if they don't. Ireland will not bulge on it. The pound has fallen since the Brexit vote. The Rees Mogg's of this world made millions the day the pound fell. The young will not forgive the older generation.

Boris is linked to Bannon who is pulling the strings. Trump is backing Boris not because he likes him but he knows if he wins he can get his claws into the NHS. There's a huge Pharma lobby in the US.

Can we really trust any of them??? No matter what party they represent.
Boris is no Churchill and never will be. It has been said that Churchill stood by Clemmie when she had an affair over many years but do we really know what happens behind closed doors.
I’ve never liked Boris but something inside me feels for him. He may be heading for a fall and even if it is of his own making, I can’t gloat.

My sister once told me that I had splinters in my backside from sitting on the fence 🙂 but I just have the ability to see both sides in almost every thing. It’s a pain :-0

I like the wet haddock, but not Hunt!

But seriously, shouldn't we be looking at the personal integrity, the real character of candidates? They may say what they wish in the hustings but have they a long track record of keeping their word? Have they evidenced that peculiar gift of accurate foresight? Also, of premium importance is truthfulness.

Isn't the so widespread lack of any of these qualities in the Westminster bubble what the country at large is revolting against?

Boris Johnson's morals are at sewer level. Churchill is not reliably recorded as being unfaithful to Clemmie. Rumours that he liked the odd squaddie may well be but the early days of political character assassination. His personal integrity and strong character helped this nation trust him in those dark days of war; those same attributes gave him a lasting place in our nation's history.

Hunt, Boris ... I feel they're already has-beens rehashing that same old same old.

My question would be, do we as a nation need to have any of them?

Our generation has lived through six prime ministers by default beginning with Eden and all have been nearly useless. In fact Callaghan was a disaster! Oh, did I mention Brown and the Lisbon Treaty which should have triggered a referendum?

It seems to me the entire current political establishment needs clearing out and all civil servants in any way tainted by remain tendencies. Then, start from scratch.

Honestly, our local postman, a man who knows nothing of politics but a lot about people would do a far better job!
