Should parents in Britain be banned from smacking their children? Why are we paying people to have children? It's their choice whereas carers get nothing unless destitute. Carers don't choose to be in that position. We already have too high a population so why subsidise more? If you work for something you appreciate it, give it for free and you get the sort of attitude Lionel refers to.ViewDate:

Are you in denial about your health?Just stop drinking. Become teetotal - it is very easy. Alcohol is just no good for you. Think of all the money you'd save. Put what you'd spend on alcohol aside for something special or use it for a new exercise hobbyViewDate:

Are you in denial about your health? This is very sad and something that I dread happening to me. Please don't take offence at my comment. I'm sure you realise that it is aimed at those who eat rubbish, drink alcohol and don't exercise and have no good reason to stay overweight. Keep up your regime. Are you able to try horse riding? Proper riding is very good exercise - why not see if your local Riding for Disabled can help. Dressage really works you and you sweat like mad so using up loads of calories.ViewDate:

Should parents in Britain be banned from smacking their children?Neither should the general public - many kids these days are obnoxious precocious brats. I'd love to give many of them a back hander.ViewDate:

Have you ever been the victim of Internet fraud?Internet banking - no chance ever again! Local branch just closed and no idea what I am going to do but it won't be internet banking. Got done out of £10k - did get it back from the bank but after 3 months of stress and admin. Had to get computer wiped too and could have got charged with embezzlement as fraudsters had moved money out of my employers account into one of mine, they had also moved money out of one of my other accounts into my employers so that was my get out of jail card I suppose. The only thing we did to cause the fraud to happen was to use our cards in an ATM in Italy. Cards were cloned. The only reason we used the cards in ATM was because the Italians would not accept anything but cash (wonder why? tax fraud never!) bank had advised us to take travellers cheques which were no use. Did get compo from the bank but hardly adequate for an almost nervous breakdown!ViewDate:

Should women only carriages be introduced on trains at night?Agree totally with the comment below. I would not travel alone at night but if there were women only carriages I'd consider it. I don't agree that it discriminates. If we need to be safe that overrides that principle. Women don't generally go around accosting/assaulting/abusing men but the other way around it definitely happens. What about men only carriages? Keep all the drunks and sex pests together.ViewDate:

Should terminally ill patients have the right to die? Many opponents to this Bill are confusing disability with terminal illness. Quite different. Someone terminally ill may be disabled and also vice versa BUT we are not talking here of giving people who are JUST disabled the right to choose to die. There must be a terminal illness i.e. one from which you will not recover and which will bring pain and suffering closer to the end if not right now. I can't see how anyone terminally ill will feel pressured into terminating their life in order to avoid being a burden to relatives. There is already the right to choose if you have enough money i.e. Dignitas in Switzerland. So one rule for the rich and one for the poor. The poor condemned to suffering and pain - how reasonable is that!ViewDate:

Speakers Corner CommentsNo it is not just you. I think this country is overpopulated already and more immigrants make matters a whole lot worse. Coming here is not the answer we need to sort out these people's problems in their own countriesViewDate:

Migrant Problem at the EurotunnelThey certainly did not enter the Eu in GB so need to be pushed back to wherever. We are overcrowded and we cannot afford services for the people who paid taxes to have them e.g. £30k wiped off my pension (now can't get it until I'm 66) and I'm a carer and my husband gets nothing after losing job when he had a big heart op. So I am not sympathetic to these people at all. Many are not Refugees from conflict but economic migrants. We have huge jobless figures here and many in jobs way below their real pay grade or part time. We need no more people to make these problems worse. Housing and education - that's another area where we are falling short and more people to make matters worse is becoming unmanageable. Then there is the health risk. TB, Ebola etc do you want that here? Nothing against immigration in the right context (I am the daughter of an immigrant fleeing from religious persecution) but this country is FULL. Close the borders to EVERYONE.ViewDate:

Do we drink too much in the UK?Got a nasty mysterious virus, had to have a liver scan - freaked me out. Did not drink more than the occasional glass before then but determined not to drink anything anymore now. Should there be a legal age limit for leaving a child home alone?I find that it beggars belief in this Nanny state age where paedophiles lurk round every corner that we don't have a lower age limit for leaving a child to it's own devices. In my book that's 14 and parents should be fined and threatened with the child being taken into care if they infringe. Sort of 3 strikes and you're out style. As well as the danger to the child, children can often be a nuisance to neighbours if they are not controlled by a parent (and sometimes if they are controlled by a parent!). I don't much care about the excuse that parents have to pay for extra child care during holidays. If this is a problem don't have children! Like animals they need to be looked after - I kind of thought that was the point of having them. Have I missed something?ViewDate:

Who will win The Great British Bake Off Final?I've never watched this show but think I've seen Nadiya on telly on a talk show . The reason I have voted for her is that her headscarf is conducive to head hygiene when preparing food. I can't stand Nigella cooking and flicking her long dark hair all over the mixing bowls. All I can think of is hair in the food UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I'd like this lady to win as she sets a good example.ViewDate:

University versus Work ExperienceI certainly would not do the degree I did - Modern Languages. Very hard work 36 hours of contact time each week and then the work to do at home from that. No credible job at the end and had to do a raft of prof qualifications in a financial field before I got a "graduate" job. Although fluent in 3 languages I have never used them in my work. Now English is the second language of the world so no point in learning other languages now. Kids are pushed into the wrong subjects by teachers who are really just into a bit of self preservation - do my subject and I keep my job for at least another year! Not good career planning. Graduates come in all shapes and sizes these days. Some degrees are clearly not worth the paper they are written on - I've managed so called graduates who read the Sun, go to bingo are generally legless each weekend - not an intellectual brain cell amongst them. No doubt there are brighter offerings from certain other unis. So I conclude that many "graduates" would be better off in jobs at 18. Many other would be graduates would be better getting a job with professional training and doing a degree part-time at home when that is all done with so graduating at 24 rather than 21. So no debt and a job to boot.ViewDate:
