Side effects of The Jab?Wow! So sorry to say Molly, that I'm an 83 yr-old Yank who had both of his shots (jabs) almost without incident. A little sore around the site for two days after the second one. I had the Pfizer vaccines. But my good friend who is my age,and had the same vaccine, said he was "tied up in knots" for a "few days" and really felt rough during that time, so they certainly hit people differently. My old doctor who is now gone, used to tell me; "yes, people are like snow-flakes-no two of us critters are exactly alike" And I guess these vaccines really bare that out, don't they? Hope you are now doing O.K. without any residual nasties!ViewDate:

Anyone from the United States?Hi "Old Padre"! A Hoosier here. Wife & I hiding out "in the attic" from the confounded "bug"! We took a vacation in your neighboring state of Arizona a few yrs back. Enjoyed the scenery, but came to the realz'n that everything out there would bite or stick you. Even those poouffy-looking Joshua trees at the end of their leaves had big, sharp thorns. And I told my wife if you think you see a white, beaded purse, don't pick it up-it'll be a Gila monster! I flipped over a flat stone with my walking stick, and sure enough-out ran a scorpion. So I didn't mind returning to Indiana, where we have a couple of toxic spiders, and rattlers in the deep woods & swamps, but that's IT! But in the inner-city of Indianapolis, last summer, we had eight shootings in one day. I don't believe Tombstone or Dodge-City ever had that many! So I guess our State isn't lacking in dangers, is it? We were in 'Vegas 30 yrs ago, and everyone tells me; don't go back, you'll be disappointed. Could well be, "cause when we were there, it was probably the best vacation bargain in the world, as far as great entertainment, food & lodging-everything! We just had a ball!ViewDate:

Looking for PenfriendsHello Eastwood, --I'm and old Yank from a suburb of Indianapolis, Indiana. been married to my lovely wife for 63 yrs. We did some traveling and got to Ireland 3 yrs ago, went on a bus tour completely around the Isle in 8 days. Enjoyed it immensely & had a great time with the people. Now have the rest of the U.K. on our "bucket list" We watch "Escape to the Country", and can't wait to get to Scotland, Wales & Northern U.K. to take in some of that beautiful scenery first-hand! Yes, but first we have to wait on vaccines to beat back that cursed "bug", don't we? My younger Sis and brother-in-law are fighting it as I type. they're in their mid 60's and she just got treated for lung-cancer! But, by the Grace of God, they seem to be slowly pulling out of it. Prayers answered. Well, that's all I'll write for now, please excuse any typos-I'm actually a good speller, but my 83-yr-old fingers don't realize that fact. Take care & GBViewDate:

RelocateBattiloro, I agree with you, So. Fla in the summertime is a punishment. My own inclination is to buy a manufactured home (mobile home) in the Indianapolis area where my kids are, for the four or five fair-weather months, and another in Florida or Savannah, Ga. for the colder months. I'm betting that you could locate a nice mfgr. home community somewhere in upstate NY, and I KNOW there's a great bunch of them in So. Fla. with some very reasonably priced used homes available. (45-75K) Taxes on them are generally lighter than standard dwellings, and altho lot-rent can be a little "stiff," you can generally arrange a maintenance included deal. Just one avenue for yo to consider-eh? Thx, Leadfoot. (P.S.;I'm a pretty good speller, but my fingers have forgotten that fact!)ViewDate:

U. S. Presidential electionThe man did everything that he promised to do, did he yell, bully and lie to get it done? Idk& Idc, I watched the loud-mouth, ego-centric New Yorker get things done! Oh, and I've got your "well-documented" right. Have a nice day!ViewDate:

Countdown to disasterI had gas in a greenhouse once-boy did I ever clear that place out in a hurry! OMG-this just in! Everyone is dying ! Yes, from the day we are born, we start dying. Our only comfort? We are far enough up the food-chain, that we are simply not born to provide sustenance to those creatures which are larger and/or quicker than we are! Alright, enough silliness- I freely admit that we are "fouling ourselves out of our own nest" with excess carbon and plastic waste. I think we are slowly taking remedial steps on the carbon, the plastic-not so much! We really need to research better ways of recycling plastic, because, as we speak, we are eating, breathing and drinking tiny bits of plastic. Pattooie!ViewDate:

Moving to Retirement Home?Hello Fest, Listen, I wouldn't be too put off by the pandemic, as I think a vaccine will be available world-wide within a matter of weeks rather than months. As to the type of facility one might choose, it seems to be widely recommended that a place with both independent-living, and physical and nursing assistance would be the wisest, since those places with only Senior residence have been known to literally "put people out at the curb" when they require only the slightest extra care. Ever been on a cruise-ship ? Does the final day of a long cruise ring a bell ? About the same treatment, I think. Hope this is of some help in your decision-making-Best of luck to you.ViewDate:

Are you living where you always wanted to live?Jeanmark, My hat is off to you as a nurse. I live in the U.S., and I refer to one of our twin daughters as the "hero" of our family. she is an R.N., and beginning with the onset of the damned "bug" back in Feb., she has donned her hazmat suit & gear every working day and gone into the Covid 19 ward at her hospital on the South-end of Indianapolis. So far,so good, but my wife & I worry about her constantly. We will keep our fingers crossed for an effective vaccine very soon! Health-care workers are slated to be first in line, & then "oldsters" like my wife & I (80+), at which time I look forward to "peering out" into the world again-eh? Take care & GBViewDate:

Are you living where you always wanted to live?We live in the U.S., and for most of our married-life lived in Northern Indiana, right next to the Michigan border. Up there, 2 or 3 feet of snow and minus 20F temps are common in mid-winter Then, at retirement we chased kids who, after their college graduations moved one-by-one to the State capitol at Indianapolis. so we found a decent home in a West-side suburban town, and it's about 200 miles South of our old home. The climate is just a tad better-we now get Winter about a week later, and Spring about a week earlier, and seldom see temps below zero (F). But if I were to hit the lottery, I would live here for the summer months, and Savannah, Ga. or Florida for the fall and winter months. But lately, there has been a price too steep to pay for living in any of the coastal areas of the U.S.. Drought, fire & earthquakes on the West coast, and record numbers of Hurricanes on the East and South coasts, have made home investments there a sketchy proposition, since those locales almost match the U.K's housing prices. (but not quite) I watch "Escape to the Country" and love the scenery, but sometimes my jaw drops at the housing costs. For a half-million to a million dollars in Indiana, you can live in a genuine mansion!ViewDate:

Hello - looking for like minded friends to chat withHi Rhyll! 50 yrs old-eh? Still a kid! Haha-said the 80-something ! But you know, moving to a new town either married or by yourself is really a toughie. We retired and chased kids (after they got out of college) and they all ended up in the same city. but even with the help of three kids, you are still always experimenting around with finding the best car-repair place , supermarket, Doctors, banks, etc, etc. whereas in the town you left you were familiar with all those details, and now you must learn them over, even in the face of the pandemic. But with the vaciine available next month, I think we are going to see the lessening of that in the near-future. But a place that a lot of people seem to forget about in their fight against loneliness is one of the oldest- ChurchViewDate:

"really" making new friends!Lily, My wife had a similar experience soon aft4er we moved from the Northern part of the state to Central Indiana. She was working a part-time job where she waited on a lady wearing a "Red-Hat" Society pin and when she made inquiry as to what would be involved in joining. the lady replied; "Oh, most of us have been friends since school, and you probably wouldn't enjoy our group very much!" My wife was pretty dejected about that for a while, and I said Hoosier Hospitality, my ___! I guess folks in our age bracket do have more of a tendency toward snobbery of various kinds.
