Clever uses for household bits & bobsSome tips for the elastic bands the postman drops: Put them round jars to make them non-slip as you undo the lids. Loop them into the tape loops on tea-towels etc. You can stretch them to use without dropping them.ViewDate:

Real or Artificial - What kind of Christmas tree will you have?We bought an 18 inch real tree in a pot for granddad in the nursing home some years ago, and repotted it as it grew and used it ourselves until it got too tall and planted it in the orchard. It's now 30 ft tall, and we tie feeders for the birds on it, with fat balls for Christmas! We now have an artificial one, with a collection of baubles going back to our childhood.ViewDate:

Silversurfers Book Club Autumn 2016I have just finished reading The Ballroom, which I thought was a most intriguing book. The background was unusual, and the main characters well-defined. The author had researched deeply to make it authentic. l was near tears once or twice! Anna Hope has a direct style of writing that draws one in. there were descriptive passages. I have ordered her previous and first, book, Wake.ViewDate:

Black Friday - I've had enough! We've now got to Black Tuesday. What a slur on the Advent season! What are the young people to think? Christmas is too commercialised now. As soon as the fireworks are over, or even before, adverts start for shopping. I got Christmas cards and begging letters at the end of August. It's not just the Americans to blame.ViewDate:

Which activity do you find most restful?I am not very mobile, spending a lot of the day in my recliner, No, I don't call that rest, as I look forward to bedtime when I can totally relax in my bed. Even then pain sometimes keeps me awake until the small hours. I have the radio ,on World service or music quietly, or read. If I get four hours on the trot that is marvellous. Of course I have forty or fifty winks after lunch!ViewDate:

Will you be sending Christmas cards this year?l always send cards to friends and relatives abroad, and those far away whom I do not see during the year, I give the cards personally to those near, and when visiting those unable to get about. It is nice to get cards, as they add to the decorations and bring people to mind.ViewDate:

Do you think Princess Beatrice and Eugenie should be given royal duties?I think they could have a set amount of official duties annually, as well as doing their own jobs and following a career. A remuneration for travel, dress etc could be arranged, and to keep them in the public eye as is their due by birth. Let's hope they make a good job of their lives.ViewDate:

Do you mind the gap?Why not just shorten the bar? Other products have shrunk in size and kept the prices down. If cocoa is sort in supply the price would go up anyway. Nostalgic thoughts of duty free bars for presents!ViewDate:

Do you still use cheques as payment?I still use cheques for sending as gifts, paying in local small shops, milkman and window cleaners etc. Saves carrying cash, and also have a record of payments, keeps an eye on credit balance too. I also use cards when accepted.ViewDate:

London zooReturning to the wild::they would not survive long as most have been bred in captivity. Also have been kept for breeding to prevent the species dying out - man's contribution to conservation which wouldn't have been necessary if habitats had not been ravaged in the first place for greed.ViewDate:
