Has social media destroyed good grammar?I do know that English grammar is not as it was “ Correct “. Or, that now it is use rather flippantly. Different generations are going to speak and use grammar in ways not please. I go by my schooling and won’t be moved in many of grammars ways. As I prefer meeting the person or I lift the telephone I find I don’t use text very much. Each to their own. Our fast way of living will warrant fast texting. Way it is!!!!ViewDate:

How confident do you feel that the Government can deliver Brexit to the benefit of the country?Approximately two years ago, around the time of the Brexit referendum, threads on Silver Surfer were well discussed. Some of you will recall some of the comments back then. I read intently some of the strong opinions. I agreed with subscribers that the way forward in a break from Europe was going to be tough, really tough. A long winding road. Sticks and stones. Debris all the way. I cannot see as yet how the way will be concluded with everyone’ satisfaction. It has taken many, many years to knit the European Union as we see it. Unraveling will take time and its toll. Too much has been given away. For whatever end. And now the unhappiness. Our history is littered with what ifs and buts. This time again, winners and losers. Just as before so much in life is changing. Population movement is one change. . The people again, are asked to be patient. Living with the outcome will be for everyone to judge. I have come this far and I have trust and faith that I will get to my end and those after me will trust and have faith to do and say what they think is right. There it is!!! We will rumble on Trust, faith and less negativity!!ViewDate:

Do you wish you’d sought help for your hearing problems sooner?I do agree with Kes. What I will say is that action should be taken as early as possible if hearing loss is noticed. An N H S appointment will suffice, N H S can and will support and supply their versions while I know their appointments are in constant demand. N H S is not a bottomless pit for any help that may be required, but it is there as you know. I appreciate the best of hearing aids are on the expensive end. That will be too much for some. Private appointments and what that may entail will be included with in this paragraph. The digital age has seen some amazing advances for hearing loss. Bionic it may seem and bionic it may be, I am for it. If I were put to the choice of buying a more modern car or spending the same on my hearing loss I would not hesitate to improve my hearing loss. Health comes first for me. Imagine the shock of not being aware of the noise of a vehicle if you wish to cross the street. Imagine not hearing the full melody of the dawn chorus. So much more will be missed. One can lose the awareness of everyday noises that we had.’ Communication is so important. Withdrawal and loneliness can become part of your life. I personally would be a different person if I had let that happen.ViewDate:

Are 'female equality' and 'feminism' the same thing?Part two. Since Emily Pankhurst ‘s time, matters to improve the life and wellbeing for women has very very slowly improved. It has done better in the United Kingdom, but in many, many parts of the world we see and hear the stories of sadness and suppression against women , young and vulnerable. Much more could be achieved. There are many more women who stand up and campaign and are advocates for injustice. May these strong women advocates continue to represent women and the vulnerable. We all should take a moment and think about this and the many many changes to improve the topics on this thread on Silversurfers. We have been made aware of so many wrongs. Let us hope the future generations have good chances in life.ViewDate:

Are 'female equality' and 'feminism' the same thing?Feminism and Female Equality. Part one. I do not think they are the same. They may overlap somewhat when opinions are expressed. Just before Emily Pankhurst’s time, women were in the background of life. Emily Pankhurst felt strongly that women should have a more prominent place in the world. As the history is written, she did her bit for women in the United Kingdom, by campaigning for a political vote for women. In hindsight she did much more! Back then women were subservient to the male in just about every aspect of their life. Was Emily a Feminist or was she a Female Equally campaigner. She was both. A Feminist will feel strong private consternation about issues of suppression, abuses E T C against females. Also, a Feminist will have strongly felt opinions regarding abuses towards the young and vulnerable. Mild opinions, moderate opinions and strong opinions. These opinions can lead to the thinking of Equality and that change is required.ViewDate:

Should Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stick to tradition?I think and I hope the couple have certain traditional aspects. Prince Harry loves his Grandmother and as she is our respected Queen from the time of World War 2. It is 2018 and it is the twenty first century and so much has changed and is different. Our Queen, just as we Silversurfers has, witnessed so much change. Some of this change is good, some of this change is not good. Change it is. Modernity, whether we like it or not, is how the generation that includes the young Royals, like Prince Harry and his bride- to - be, live this modern life. I do think Prince Harry will use his respect for the tradition of the Royal family with the capacity to be modern with different and young ideas. I think he will. It will be important that he live responsibily. Using their wisdom of their upbringing and also experience of their future. Let us leave them to choose each other and to choose the path. Some of us will like how that path is trod, some of us will not like how the path is trod by them. Let the young generation be!!ViewDate:

Would you want a home DNA test to reveal your risk of illness?Well put Lionel. There is so much that would bring pressure to an already bulging health system in the United Kingdom. A difficult subject on Silversurfers without putting up wrong facts on this subject. Simply, it is a step too far to have a home D N A test scenario.ViewDate:

Would you want a home DNA test to reveal your risk of illness?Only my opinion RayY. Only my personal opinion. Every person can choose whether they want to know more about a health condition. The question on Silversurfers was, Would I take A home D N A test?ViewDate:

Would you want a home DNA test to reveal your risk of illness?I am unsure about this. I vote no as the question is Would I use a home D N A test? I would not use a home test. For me it would be tested by the professional health services if I were to decide to have a D N A test. I know of a part of the N H S in the United Kingdom that does offer a D N A test for the condition of F H. First, I will say that consent is given by the donor in participation, that the result is recorded and stored by the laboratory for future guidance in the family in question. Also the result can be used within the future percentage in the condition per population. Secondly, when a D N A gene test has a positive result, and a family inherited mutation, there is a concern. A decision by the donor can cause a concern, when one has to decide to inform their offspring and maybe the extended family that a mutant gene is prevalent in the family. Where would this lead? Certainly an offer of treatment and medication by a doctor. I would be hesitant of offloading a positive result of a D N A test unto my offspring etc, knowing the concern it may cause. A choice would have to be made. YES, it would be an informed choice. And CHOICE is the important bit. I am unsure about this subject of Gene testing. The jury is out for me!!!!!ViewDate:

Do you feel lonely at times?I do feel lonely at times though it is rare for me. I like solitude at times, that is not loneliness to me. If a government minister can come up with solutions for the many reasons that make people lonely, then the list below is going to take money, effort and time. With this thread the pendulum swings. Loneliness is :- Community indifference Losing a partner/ friend Grief Family displacement/ discord Immobility Agoraphobia/ fear of going out Deafness There is more reasons. I can vouch through experience that loss of hearing can slowly bring about withdrawal if it is not treated. Withdraw from society and then loneliness can occur. I am of the understanding that enough supervision should be given to anyone with this malady. Long NHS waiting lists and expensive aids hinder and deter the delay of improving the general well-being for those with hearing loss. Now where does a government minister begin to combat loneliness?ViewDate:

Do you use vitamins and supplements?Dire reading Lionel. Sounds about right, sadly. Around about where I live the land does not get a rest. Push, push to till and reap repeatedly. Land is exhausted. I may be a Silver Surfer and look like one but I do spend time thinking out nutritional food ideas. Maybe it would be easier to just go and get quick food and spend more time socially. I do leisurely anyway but I have a keen interest in what I eat.ViewDate:

Do you use vitamins and supplements?I agree with you Pam. It is said the body rejects excess. I personally think of the bigger picture. Food is the best nutrition. And the wider the variety the better. Also the freshest food. The food chain has become more processed. For me some supplements are a benefit for that very reason. Only I know.when they work. Only each individual who reaches for vitamins and supplements know. When the Health profession say there may be little or no real benefit of taking vitamins and supplements,,I again, would partly agree. There maybe depletion of vitamins brought about some prescribing of medication. I have seen consultants reach for an extra nutrient for a patient. Do we know for sure.that these vitamins etc work?Probably not. Good food, fresh air, sunshine, excersise and meditation. All required. Again, individual choice.ViewDate:

Do you use vitamins and supplements?I do take vitamins and food supplements. This is free choice though there is caution. We know the benefits of the likes of Vitamin C and fish oils , the common supplements. I would be wary of some of the lesser well known supplements. I do my homework by reading information on each and every one I may be interested in. I would be a bit concerned that some vitamins and food supplements would affect the workings of prescription medications. I would certainly not advise anyone as I would not know how vitamins and supplements would react with people on prescription medications. It is also important to notify my G P on what supplements I take. Tests taken by the G P may be affected. I have benefits with vitamins and food supplements.ViewDate:

Do you see the benefits of mindfulness and meditation?Yes Wilf. We do have it all nowadays. We should appreciate what we have too. We only need to switch off sometimes. I personally use the off button quite a bit.ViewDate:

Do you see the benefits of mindfulness and meditation? It must be good for the soul Wilf. I think that our Western society have got so used to the harum scarum of life it has become difficult to switch off. The body would heal and relax if we can just have really quiet moments. Too much outside interference from technology, noise pollution and general fast moving life can be tiring. I also think meditation and mindfulness is incorporated with prayer. Different ways for different people.ViewDate:

Do you see the benefits of mindfulness and meditation?Yes, both meditation and mindfulness are something that is important to me and I feel the benefit each time I participate in either. I would go along with Yodama’s entry here on Silver Surfers. It may not suit everyone and people may find it boring, but to read up on these subjects are helpful. This is all a relatively new concept in the West. People are apt to poo poo the idea. Do try out meditation and mindfulness. An important point is that one must learn to relax more and then it can lead into a deeper relaxation. I use these methods of meditation and mindfulness after a busy spell at work for instance. I would fall asleep much more easily. Try it.ViewDate:

Mind you the Brexit decisions are all looming and she obviously knows it would have been difficult without out enough of her own M P's. Whatever, onward it will have to go. If she is given the peace to do anything. At last she is standing up to the comments regarding the very bad standards of workmanship on these poorly refurbished buildings. Is now the right time to hold a snap General Election? If an election helps to further decide and strengthen a hand in what is to come, then surely do have one. As the Brexit vote is almost one year ago, I can surely see a long road of debate. Many minds make many obstacles and the road will be strewn with tripwire and the castoff debris. It has been a long road within the E U, and collaboration has gathered so much to unravel. Westminster, now has to pick up the deciding Brexit vote and work with that. Years, it may take. And how is the question on everyone's lips. Only good leadership and a supporting government. Has Westminster got that? Too early for me to know that. But when earlier government decisions were made to the division of a country's people it is inevitable unrest is the result. The prime minister took up the reins and that is what we have. Britain has had her back to the wall before. Many countries have had their back to the wall. Each one each time must have and use good leadership, good intellect, good bargaining and fairness. Countries has risen and fell due to wrong timing and wrong decisions. The world is an open place and much can be misconstrued. I live in Northern Ireland and I feel we are at a crossroads. At the moment with Britain' s Brexit vote it is between a rock and a hard place. Intransigence and stalemate. We can only wait for mainland movement. Whatever the outcome we all and our future generations will be picking up on decisions made now. No unity, no conversing draw a long stagnation of ever ending whys and what ifs. A burgeoning E U and the off shoots, for years has to change. But does it have to be extreme?? It may. It may be an extreme route that Britain is undertaking now. The whole world is so different now and we have become more dependent on others for the supply of the very basic commodities. We have lost so much business to the world and competing within that is thinner and more difficult. And this all won't be something for nothing. Mess up now and leave your children and grandchildren the fallout. Since June and before a ship set sail. So sail on Britain. The wind rises and the wind quells.ViewDate:

Would you like to see Woolworths back on the High Street? Two much has changed in the retail world. It would be lost in the hubbub of the cheap type shopping which is everywhere on the high street nowadays. Unless they can outshine what is there at the present time. Internet shopping is more popular than high street shopping with many nowadays. Especially the younger generation. Our generation does like browsing and the hand on the goods. Maybe Woolworths can include internet shopping as well as high street shops. Don't know.ViewDate:

Crafting at homeCrafting. I have always something at hand. May it be a winter woolly or something with material and thread. At the moment I am working on silk. I have to hand stitch as the delicate material will catch and snag. I am working out a six foot skein of sari silk and the end project will be a table runner. Beautiful to work with and there has to be more imagination and working out the measurements for some embroidery motives. The colour and the finish of this piece will not take transfers easily. Head, eyes and a steady hand. It is a good feeling if one gets an idea and the right thoughts come through to press forward and you see the project taking shape. Crafting does fill moments for anyone. There is many ideas that anyone can have and it only takes the want to take it up.ViewDate:

Why do some people still cling to religion?Religion - How does anyone define religion? There is any amount of definitions used up to the present moment. Anything from the simple faith one has to the wars and aggression ( in the name of religion ) on earth. I personally do not use the word religion in my way of thinking and living a life. I have faith and take comfort from that faith. This faith through the church, is a firm ground of stability and I am content with what I glean . If someone has walked the earth before me and what I read or learn about that, comforts me and interests me then I have something to connect with. Medieval, Gothic architecture, church architecture all have a quality in the workmanship of their time. The presence I feel when I visit a place like this is strong enough to open my heart and my eyes to the magnificence and thinking behind their creation. Walk the earth, night or day and look up and around you. What do you see? The world is your Cathedral. The science of earth is fascinating. The creation of earth is fascinating. As we live life, learn from life, to hold on and literally pray ( we all pray ) for a different outcome or work and wait patiently until bad becomes better. Believe in something, it does not have to be religion. Faith in something is a comfort. Whatever that might be. Not the conflicting aspects of religion as it is portrayed or as one may see it.ViewDate:

Do you think Scotland should hold a second referendum?Well, whatever time and history brings, we at this stage can only speculate and argue. The laws in force will be the point of guidance, if they hold substance and if they hold firm, are the way from this point in time. Whoever, these people are, and that goes for any country, don't see that their opposition should have a voice. If they want division they will continue dividing society. There is plenty of support and shelter here in the west. Not perfect administration and many wrongs. If they were a suppressed nation, like so many in the world, maybe there would be reason for their unrest. I don't know these people and they don't know me or my ancestors. They also won't care. I can only live my way and hope for a sensible outcome. My first blog on this still stands. A disfunctional world for the twenty first century. Enough said by me.ViewDate:
